I couldn't write a better book than Cellini's "Royal Touch". It would be arrogance to think otherwise...MHO.

I think what's been helpful for me, and what I haven't seen covered elsewhere, are the advantages of applying specific types of acting techniques to magic. I don't mean a general treatise on theatricality & presentation, but rather how to apply (for instance) Meisner techniques to one's improvisational magic; or how to reduce unnecessary muscle tension during sleights with the Alexander Technique.

I agree with Bluemagic,.. agreeing with PaulSharke.
Add to it, Voice Development(!). So many today believe, it´s only possible with an Amp. a Chapter on "Creative Development" would also be interesting., but FIND `practical advise´,... or `a Source(!)´. ,.. ah, a nice big foto section would also be nice! ,but not the "standards´. Show, `everyday boys playing the everyday´. ..,the Sidewalk Workers,, with cars in the background., the "quick Show huslers",.. sneaking one in before the Police come. good luck, ..I mean, "break a leg". `get deported´. givin´ it easy, gallagher. |

It is a good to know As a street performer you will be responsible for brining communities together to watch your show. When you begin to think this through it can a daunting task but Infact you are. Once you think this through you can contribute on a deeper level creating not just a crowd but an audience that you connect with and in turn with each other. For me this is an amazing privilege when I reach this I feel their is real magic all around us!

I like what mr morris wrote and I think that we all try to reach that level with our magic.

The other thing I would care to mention in a book is about becomig a Hardened street performer.
It is true often street performers can be hardened, tough faced performers due to the natuer of the street. We aspier to be like our mentores so often we adopte this hardness. It does not have to be so. I must addmit I use to be just like this and I found it spills over into every day of life. We have all herd it said, I am like this for example I talk a lot it runs in my family we all do it so its just the way I am. This is only true if you allow it to be true. The same applyes to street performing you don't have to be a hard noised street performer. Instead you do have a choice, you can be a busker that spreads positvness through your magic and shows. Infact I promise you will get a better response from your audeiance and day to day life if you do so. |

So you must be street wise and wise proformer with balance of the two.

More to the point, being street wise does not mean you have to be a hard noised tough guy. What you put out their is what you created and attracted. If you are performing a show, it is you who is creating the vibe. You can create what ever vibe suits you. All I am sayig it does not have to be the hardened street performer.

I work almost any size you like groups. From door ways to full blown circle shows. If I am working a small door way show then I tend to keep it to ten minuets max and I will just turn the shows over and over. This is can be suitable for places where their is no big plaza and so on. After some years I do get boared of performing small shows very easy to do after doing circle or half circle shows but boaring. For me circle is almost a diffrent beast I feel I offer real thearter experiance but in the open air. A show can last up to 45min which includes the build averge 30 min.
I set of learning to perform circle shows with my first act my SJ-escape show. Then after some years I introduced cups and balls into my show and for the first time I down sized my show to a door way that was very easy but painfull transison. Then over the years developed my new show into what it is today a circle or half circle show I found that took me years to learn. Does that answer your qwestion? |
