I just receive "Closure" yesterday from a reliable seller here on the Café - Unfortunately the DVD will not work - believe it must have been defective from the start as no obvious scratches, etc.

Seller offered to buy it back but I would love to keep it and work on it if possible - anybody have any suggestions - the DVD is totally unworkable - can't watch a thing, presentation, secrets, prep, etc.

Open to suggestions if a way to keep it - feel free to PM me

Mike

You may have already done this, but have you tried the disc in both a dedicated DVD player and in a computer's optical drive? I've seen disks that would play in one and not the other.

[edit] Oops - I'll PM this suggestion as you requested.

Tried in my Blue Ray Player; tried in my regular DVD player; tried in 3 separate computers - tried cleaning it with DVD cleaner - Disc remains unplayable.

Give this a try on your PC. I use VLC player to play everything.
All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.

Use the Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) to see if you can see the contains of the DVD. If you can see any files, then just copy them all to hard drive and try to reburn it to another DVD using your DVD burner software

I would just contact the producer of the video and straightforwardly tell him about your purchase and what the experience is. I suspect they will take care of you.
Let him know you've been posting about this on the Café, and that you'd love to report a great resolution to the difficulty.

Have you tried washing the optical side with soap and water, moving from the center to the edge, as in the direction of spokes on a wheel. The file structure of a dvd uses a critical file called video_TS.ifo. Sometimes oils or other gunk imperceptibly blocks this file, rendering the dvd unplayable.

Another possibility is that is might be regionally encoded to play elsewhere than the U.S.

I have found that "Media Player Classic" opens just about everything using Windows.

You can find many sites that provide a free download of this program.
