Hey everyone, what are some of you favorite non-magic books that you think have principles that apply to busking, or just to magic in general?

The one currently at the top of my list is "It's not all about me: The Top Ten Techniques for Building Rapport With Anyone" by Robin Dreeke. Basically it's a list of techniques/tactics for building stronger rapport with people, as well as a couple exercises to try. I figure if people like you more they're more likely to pay you, and likely to pay you more. Not a terribly complicated concept.

I've been trying to put some of the stuff into practice, and it seems to really be helping my show. I also wait tables, and after trying a few of these things, got my first %100 tip.

Anyway, what are some other useful books you've found?

`Living the Good Life´
by Helen and Scott Nearing.

it describes different Values,
different Economic Strategies,
AND,... the folks lived them,....
`tll they died,..
Scott,.. 102.
Helen,.. 83,.. car accident.

"Illusions"
by Richard Bach.
quite inspiring,.. funny,..
but,
he sadly didn´t `live it´.
(read "A Bridge Across Forever",
his story of self-destruct.)

"Jitterbug Perfume"
Tom Robbins
,...great book,..
great ending,..

",...At birth we are red-faced, round, intense, pure. The crimson fire of universal consciousness burns in us. Gradually, however, we are devoured by parents, gulped by schools, chewed up by peers, swallowed by social institutions, wolfed by bad haits and gnawed by age' and by the time we have been digested, cow style, in those six stomachs, we emerge a single disgusting shade of brown.

The lesson of the beet, then, is this" hold on to your divine blush, your innate rosy magic, or end up brown. Once you're brown, you'll find that you're blue. As blue as indigo. And you know what that means.

Indigo
Indigoing.
Indigone."

deep breath,
and smiles,
gallagher.

You can't win by Jack Black. An autobiography of a highway man/yegg/hobo/thief. Though not related to busking, it has a sense of adventure to it that could be appreciated by any street worker. It's said to be William s. Burroughs favorite book. It's tied for favorite book for me with treasure island and Robinson Crusoe.

If you pick up "you can't win", please let me know how you like it. I've recommended it to so many people and have never had anyone dislike it.

But not very magical.
Less than 2% of reported UFO's turn out to be actual interplanetary vehicles.
