Two that come to mind are Silent Running and Crossroads by Ben Harris and Steve Shufton. Derren Brown has a method as well but, I would check out the Ben Harris effects first. Silent Running and its sequel Run Silent, Run Deep are especially strong. I should add that these are a series of effects based upon what you've asked for - and there are a few methods taught. If you buy Silent Running at Lybrary.com or from Ben Harris at wowbound.com, you'll have access to additional effects and methods.
Hope this helps! Best, Vlad |

There are probably Mentalist Magic prediction effects that would work.

Hi Er1tro,
I would certainly second Vlad's recommendations as I use Silent Running and Run Silent, Run Deep procedures quite regularly. It is a powerful weapon for many types of situations. All the best Michael. |

Dani DaOrtiz does it with an imaginary deck to do the ID effect with a regular deck.
So much to do, so little time . . .

I always wanted to do a deckless force for "Heirloom" and eliminate the wallet altogether and use only ONE photograph and have it have equal impact with the original method. (Name any card)
But I'm beginning to think my wish is a pipe dream.

Going off of what Vlad was saying, if you can ever get your hands on "The Devil's Picturebook" by Derren Brown, you'll find a couple of no deck forces in there. I find them tough to pull off, but with a lot of trial and error, I'm sure they can be consistent and quite amazing.

I wonder if they are short and simple, or use a lot of elimination such as is used in "Inferno", "Colossal Blizzad", or Paul Harris's "One And Only" and other such effects.

Depends on how much time and attention you want on the process. There's always equivoque.

Absolutely true. I guess to me the goal is to keep that equivoke as short, sweet and simple as possible. And to add an element of clarity to it.
Messy equivoke is not an option. It should be crisp and brisk. The closer we can get it to the holy grail of "Name any card in the deck". and they name it and you nail it, the better off it's going to be.

If it's from Derriin, you know it has to be good stuff.

I don't know if this qualifies; it doesn't use a deck, just 5 cards, but Dai Vernon's "5 Card Mental Force" is one of the all-time greatest in magic, IMHO.
