Bill markets his stuff to professionals or people who fancy themselves that way who are not good with arts and crafts. You are generally getting a drop into your act piece of comedy magic that you can be sure will work and plays well. Seems like the Scott Alexander approach as well. I have purchased several of his products and have been happy but I will certainly pick up the Hobson DVD to look into constructing this myself.
Just as an aside I see he I selling this in a package. I saw the jumbo repeat at a lecture, nicely made by Cardshark. I was tempted by the table, but aside from the price agree with others who have said that a black based table is the way to go and in the video he is performing with a black based table. |

I also wanted to get across that although I felt the product was expensive, I have a lot of respect for Bill Abbott. Xcath makes a valid point when comparing Bill Abbott to Scott Alexander. Generally, if you buy one of their products, it is good enough to go straight into your act (subject to the usual efforts to make a routine your own). |

I love Bill Abbott's products and have his 5 card repeat, but I will invest in Hobson's video first. If I like the box then I can make my own (which very rarely really happens) or dish out the money. The way I want to do this effect is start with the 5 Card repeat, use the card box, making my own with double switch side panels (in Bill Abbotts video he only shows one side switching)and then end with a card castle that was resting beneath the bottom of the box. I think it would be a smash ending.

I like how he called it the 24 hr Superdeal!
What is retail if $195 is the Superdeal? Unrealistic |

Yes, his superdeals usually come with bonus routines. They've all been very good.

I doubt you will be dissappointed as I am sure based on Bill's reputation it will work as advertised. If you can afford it you will be happy with it, if you can't you will regret it.

Anyone can certainly buy the Hobson video, make the box, and use it for a six card repeat like Jeff suggests...nothing wrong with that.
BUT to add the part where the message changes like Bill does would not be too ethical in my opinion. I like Bill's thoughts on this...and I think the "changing message" perfectly fits in with the presentation that is scripted in the original 5 Card Opener. If you want to do it that way...with the message...you should probably buy the box from Bill as it was his idea to put the two ideas together. Since I would probably have never thought of it I did buy the box from Bill... Cody

Bill Abbott's business model is different than most.
He generally offers a solid, audience tested, full-blown turnkey routine that is ready to be slotted into your show. You are paying for the presentation and performance rights primarily, the props are almost incidental. It is difficult to place a price tag on that. I will grant you that in this case it seems to be expensive for what appears to be a cardboard box taped together by a 6 year old, but personally, I would feel uncomfortable taking the concept that the creator sent to you in an email and then leave them out of the equation altogether. You would not even have the idea if it were not for them. You cannot justify stealing just because you cannot afford the item you're stealing or you feel it is way over-priced. The fact that the basic method is available from a cheaper source doesn't matter either. You NEVER thought of using it in conjunction with the 5 Card Opener until Bill Abbott gave you the idea, right? Just do the right thing and pay up if you want to use it, it's good karma. Just my .02 |

I totally agree that Bill should have worked out an equitable agreement with Eric before marketing the box.
