While unpacking some of my old magic stuff, I came across Patrick Martin's sponge ball effect, "Clones." I have the Clones sponges (very cute) but I never actually performed the effect for an audience.
Currently I do Scott Guinn's dynamite sponge ball routine, "Peanut Butter and Jelly." I don't plan on giving up the Guinn routine because it is so good. I partcularly like the vanish of the sponge balls at the end of the routine, even though some people on the forum say to finish a routine with a vanish is not a good idea. Anyway, have you used Martin's routine for the Clones? If so, do you have any opinion about it? Perhaps it might be especially good for kids. I like the look of the Clones and the idea of using an eyedropper, which gives a good excuse for going to the pocket. Thanks. Richard |

Richard,
Check out the "Clones from Brazil" by Ron Bauer. Published in Charllie Miller's "Magicana" column (July-1983). The illustrations from that column are posted at http://www.thinklikeaconjurer.com/conjurers under FREE STUFF. If you want more info PM me. Best Regards, Tom

It's been a long time since I had the effect, and I don't know that it's even made anymore. But to answer your question, I used the routine alot, and it always got good reactions from both kids and grownups too. Since you still have the effect, would you consider cloning off a set for the Daff? (Just kiddin)

Over eleven years since this thread, and I found some googley eyes in the dollar store. So I picked them up, hoping to clone some of my own clones if I can find some orange sponge balls. (And some mini sponges for the noses).
An eye dropper correctly gimmicked is a no brainer to make up. Only problem is, when I searched through my files for the instructions, I discovered I only have page one! Arrrrgghj! I completely forget how the routine went!!

Anybody here who would be wiling to share the "Clones" instructions with me? All I have left is page one, and that tells me very little.

I think orange was the original color, and I feel it was a good choice because it just seems to "fit" the routine. Kind of hard to explain.
I see Penguin has orange sponges, so I think I may splurge.

I remember watching Patrick Martin doing this at an informal get together and "killed" with it. Not sure if this is still available.

No. Not any longer available.
Only way to get them is you have to roll your own. Um, sorry. I meant clone your own.
