Any recommendations on a good gambling routine for a beginner or is it best for a beginner not to venture into that territory right away? Are there certain sleights, effects etc more geared to that sort of routine? What skill should be worked on to get to a level where a nice routine could be developed and performed?
Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?

For some simple gambling effects get the book "World's Best Card Tricks," by Bob Longe. It has about five different gambling effects, in addition to many others. Most of the tricks in this book don't require any sleight of hand, and are relatively easy to perform.

Nick Trost had a few booklets called "The Gambling Magician". Marlo had some simple stuff too like the Gardner/Marlo Poker Deal (originally in Let's See the Deck).

I like Gambler's Mark on R. Paul Wilson's "Twists of Fate," but I don't think it's great for a beginner.

A gambling routine is more of a routine style. The important thing would be to find effects that fit that style. I also have Worlds Best Card Tricks and can recommend this one too. Just remember to think of how an effect would fit the gambling theme. After a while, you might be able to add coin effects too, and tie it to the theme with patter. Smile

also a "poker puzzle" from the Royal Road....

these two rogether would be a neat little turn

hint..............do further first.
