Hello..! Its an honor to meet all of you people. This is actually my first time uploading a post
to the magic Café forums.. so I don't exactly know how this website runs but I'll try my best. So.. my current situation is this. I have a audition for the "Magic Castle" Junior Membership. I will probably be performing in the close-up section with either cards, coins, or sponge balls. Instead of doing the exact same routine that was done by a magician, I am actually trying to write my own words, and make my routine for the audition. It will be almost impossible to make tricks, so I will be putting some tricks together and make them flow from one another. A bit of information, because I am not known. I've been performing magic for almost 3 years now. I mostly perform tricks with cards, and sponge balls. For Coins, I know the basic but I can't perform a routine. As some of you might have noticed by the picture, I am asian. I am from South Korea, but I am fluent with english. I do not get really nervous to talk in front of people, and my hands don't tremble when I am in stage. Even though magic is a hobby for me, I actually take it quite seriously. I read books, study psycology for tricks, and watch a lot of lectures while attending Q&A's. To take my career to the next step, I am really going to try hard for the auditions in the last saturday of September. I am currently in London, and I'll be in the U.K. If anybody of you actually want to get in touch and maybe meet around in London, it will be great for me. I hope that we could help eachother and maybe become great friends ^^ So I'll write the questions down... 1. For the auditions in the Magic Castle, do you guys have any specific recommendations? (Ex. Do not do the ambitious card routine..... Do not add in sexual jokes...) 2. Making a routine... any advice (If I will be using cards, sponge balls, or both of them) 3. Writing my words.. any advice (I like to talk about the past, and usually I like to add in jokes in between) 4. Any books, dvd's, lectures that you might recommend for any of the things above (Ex. Card, Coin, Talking, Stage movement, Sponge Ball) 5. I heard that Sponge ball does not appeal to magicians.. Is it true? Holy.. I actually did write a long post.. Sorry.. I hope you guys can help, and if any of you are in London, and you want to contact me.. Please comment!! (I want to know some magicians in London too...!!) |

Hi~ As of today, I would recommend that you BE YOURSELF! when you audition.
From your notes above, you certainly seem to be seriously interested. You didn't mention your age, but I assume you are under 21. You're not expected to be an experienced professional! Do material that you have been doing! Accept any suggestions (if they're from qualified performers!) My best wishes...I hope you do well!
