This is the advertising of the new University Program in Illusionism in Spain :
Royal College Queen María Cristina A college affiliated with Madrid’s State University “Universidad Complutense.” “Wencesalo Ciuró” University Program in Illusionism Royal College Queen Maria Cristina was founded in 1892 by Regent Queen of Spain María Cristina of Habsburg. Run by the Order of St Augustine, it has maintained its teaching activity uninterruptedly ever since. It is located in a series of 16th century buildings which are part of the architectonical complex of the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, one hour north of Madrid. Why a College Program in Illusionism? We believe the time has come to give illusionism the recognition it deserves as one of the fine arts. Here at RCQMC we have decided that offering a full program in illusionism, the first ever offered by a university worldwide, is the best possible contribution we can make to such a recognition. With this program, RCQMC also wants to pay homage to Spain’s greatest 20th century illusionist, Fr Wenceslao Ciuró (1895-1978), an internationally acclaimed figure in his time, and the author of fifteen books on the art of illusionism. Structure of the Program This three-year program is divided in nine quarters (twelve weeks each). It has a sequential structure, with three different subjects being taught in weekend blocks, one weekend each month (Friday 5 pm to 9 pm, Saturday 10 am to 2 pm, and 3:20 pm to 7:30 pm). Additional workshops are scheduled for Sunday morning (10 am to 2 pm) following classes. One more 4-hour workshop is scheduled each month at a later date. Attendance to workshops is recommended but not required. In total, classes plus workshops add up to twenty on-campus hours per month. The program includes a total of seventy-two four-hour intensive seminars which all students in the program must attend, plus nine additional specialized four-hour seminars required only of those students with degree objective. The topics include not only all branches of magic but also the history and theory of illusionism and associated arts, such as voice training, stage preparation, hypnosis, commercial promotion, among others . For the complete program and schedule of classes, please go to http://www.rcumariacristina.com. Admission requirements Admission to the program can be granted in two different ways: a. With degree objective: Admission for university credit will be granted to those applicants who already have a college degree (regardless of what field) or who are currently enrolled in a university program (whether in Spain or in another country). Those who do not meet this requirement must follow the regular application process for admission, which includes a special selectividad set of exams (for more information, please contact ilusionismo@rcumariacristina.com) b. With no degree objective. Anyone not meeting the requirements for admission with degree objective, or simply not wanting to bother with examinations, may seek admission without a degree objective. Those admitted with no degree objective are subject to attendance and participation requirements; however, they do not need to take examinations nor do they need to take the final nine seminars of specialization (see above). Provided they meet the basic attendance and participation requirements, at the end of the program they will receive a Certificado Superior en Ilusionismo (“Advanced Certificate in Illusionism”). c. Students may initially register with no degree objective while working towards meeting the requirements to register with degree objective, and take examinations with a conditional status meanwhile. If later admitted as a student with degree objective the grades he or she obtained will be applied towards his/her degree in illusionism. The reverse process is also possible. Methodology Classes are taught in Spanish with a basic support in English for the more theoretical subjects. For the majority of subjects, being eminently practical in nature, we do not anticipate the need for foreign language support. The different techniques will be recorded in video, and will be available to the students online. Each group will have an average of 20 students (a maximum of 25). Examinations will take place at the end f each quarter before a committee of Spain’s first class magicians. All thirty teachers in the program are internationally-renown fist-rate magicians and experts in associated arts, among them Dani Daortiz, Woody Aragón, Jeff Toussaint, and Miguel A. Gea. Registration Cost of registration is 750 euros per quarter. Pre-registration requires a 150 euro deposit. Pre-registration enables you to ensure your place in the program at an early date. The 150 euro deposit will be applied to the full cost of registration, which must be paid by October 15, 2013. For those staying overnight, RCQMC offers students in the program a specially discounted weekend package which includes single room plus three meals a day. Classes begin October 19, 2013 For more information, please contact ilusionismo@rcumariacristina.com Or call 34-637 950 522 For full registration or pre-registration, please go to http://www.rcumariacristina.com Best regards from Spain |
