Hey guys,
My brother and I went to a talent agency today. They said they were interested in us but there is a up front fee of $1295 for classes and headshots. To me that sounds like a scam, I heard never pay a agency upfront. I don't want to do it, what do you guys think. The agency is http://www.internationalcreativeartists.com. It is for tv, commercials and prints. If I want to work with agents on a commission bases should I check out entertainment bureaus instead of agencies. I am in southern california and I want to work the private and big party events doing close ups, things that agents can get through connections. |

While I know nothing about International Creative Artists, I cannot recommend paying for classes and headshots upfront. That being said, it really depends upon your goals in the entertainment industry.
If you are looking to break into films and TV as an actor or modeling, then International Creative Artists MAY be able to help - if they have a proven track record and industry contacts. Before investing money you should do some research. Ask around, talk with some past students, get references, etc. Who are the principals who run the agency? Are they ethical, or scam artists? Remember, you can take acting classes at a local college or university and get headshots anywhere. It doesn't sound like these people can help you get private party work doing close-up. You should be contacting party planners, caterers, and entertainment bureaus. And they do not require money in advance. |

Of course, they're interested in you. More specifically, they're interested in your money.
Don't walk, RUN as fast as you can away from these guys. No legit agency will require you to pay an upfront fee. There's nothing wrong with them offering classes and photo sittings for a fee, but that has to be an option, not a requirement. To be fair, I haven't checked out their website, but just the fact that they are requiring such an enormous upfront fee spells S-C-A-M to me. See ya! Joe L.

One thing you can do, is check with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) first. This could really open up your eyes about this "agency" and the effectiveness of delivering the gigs they seem to "promise."
Ask for references, and check them out, too, if you are skeptical. (Skepticism is not a bad thing, in this case.) This sounds a lot like the model agency scams you hear about on TV newsmagazine shows. The Gr8 DonaldD.

I would first do research on them and find out as much information on them as you can. Also test them out. You test them by asking them questions, interviewing them and asking for references you can talk to. If they are legit, they will have no problem in helping you in any way that they can.
I also would call the BBB and see if they have any information on the company as well. Be cautious but do your own homework as well. Kyle

Nonononono!
If a real agency rep thinks you need classes, he'll tell you you need to take classes, maybe (if he's a nice guy) recommend a place to take them locally, and send you away with that. Cause if you need to take classes, you're by definition not ready for an agent. (Yes I know some actors continue to take classes even after starring in major productions, the point is nobody's telling them they NEED to.) Real agencies are in the business of representing professional-level performers. They're not in the business of selling acting lessons or photo shoots or showcase appearances or whatever. If they offer to sell you stuff, leave. |

This company took money from a friend. They promised work after classes, headshots, and more. They never got him one audition and he spent over $3000. It is a SCAM.
