Imagine if their argument were about music: “If you are on key, you don’t have to worry about rhythm!”
“If you are on the beat, it doesn’t matter if you’re off-key!” Who among us would enjoy going to a concert where the band had no rhythm or its members were not tuned to each other?

I can appreciate a music witch satisfied your criteres (good rythm but "out of key").
It's rare but here's a little example : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nNGlaiVypU

But I have noticed that most magicians spend lots of time practicing sleights and moves, without taking into account their angles.

We can find a lot of moves (you can even pay for download them. I did it) with angles that are so bad that you can only do it for a camera (or for one only spectator but with care).

I think that Jon's idea of using an untold reference to Cinderella for which spectators' acceptance is already preconditionned is not just "good", I think it's brilliant

Yes, it's much better than I thought at first.
I haven't seen the reference to Cinderella (I was probably tired) and it's a good one because everybody knows it. So it helps to create a world where impossible things become possible : a magic atmosphere.

One futher question.
How what has been uncovered by this thread could be adapted to the Spider Grip vanish ?

Way back when Harry Lorayne published a followup transfer for the spider/sucker vanish it was about avoiding any overt ha-ha at the audience's expense and instead finding congruent gestures to "just so" the palm-toward-audience displays without putting any of the performer character attention there.

from my character's perspective there's no sleight of hand going on.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

JT.

Well said!

In my earlier days, I had audiences respond, "I know how you did that, sleight of hand". Not such a good response from audiences.

These days my "character", gets something different from my programs. Of course, I am also looking for something different from them.(and to give them)

A good false transfer must meet this test. Your false transfer should look as smooth as David Roth's shuttle pass, in any of its versions (a toss or loose grab,etc...).
this is the gold standard which will often deceive magicians, even if they know it.
