Since people will commit murder whether or not there are laws against it, why have laws against it? After all, killing people is a cultural thing.

I think that if the focus were on purely innocent victims (e.g. controlling for gang-on-gang shootings and such, as well as suicides, which can be carried out any number of ways), the cross-country numbers would be a lot closer.

You may be right--but I think that argument about economic inequality could be extended to economic inequality within a country. The rich have more to defend, the poor have more to gain, less to lose. Just a theory, I have nothing yet to back it up.

In 1996, after a gunman killed 35 people and wounded 18 others in Port Arthur, a former penal colony turned tourist attraction, Australians collectively decided not to follow what then-Prime Minister John Howard called “the American way” on guns.
Just 12 days after the massacre, Howard, a conservative, announced that he had convinced Australia’s states to ban automatic and semiautomatic weapons and instigated a gun buyback for high-powered and rapid-fire rifles. A uniform system for registering and licensing firearms was introduced. A third of the guns in Australia were handed in to the government. Polls found that as much as 90 percent of the public approved of the stricter gun laws. A 2006 study shows a drop in mass killings after firearms licensing laws were enacted. from: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-......eenagers |

It is not the guns as much as it is the availability of weapons of mass destruction. A gun whose only purpose is to kill lots of people very quickly.

The gun in of itself has no reasoning power. However the person wielding the gun has a purpose and that is who has to be dealt with. The gun is an inanimate object that is controlled by a person. Of all the guns out there the amount used in such acts as those we are talking is miniscule. If as you state that guns are the problem there should be 100 times the amount of such incidents as this just because of the sheer volume of guns out there. But we know this is not the case. It is the individual not the gun. So it is not the abundance of guns but rather how the people who use them. How did this gunman get into the Naval Yard? With his background how did he slip through the cracks? Did the gun sneak in and say to the man, "Lets kill people?" I hope you know that is not the case. The individual planned it and used the same kind of gun that millions of Americans own and use legally and do not kill anyone with them. I am all for punishing the criminals and keeping guns out of their hands. However I am not for the aforementioned statement at the cost of depriving innocent law abiding people who obey the law by legally obtaining and using their firearms for protection and enjoyment such as target shooting. You may not like it. To you I say. Don't purchase one. This is America. No one is forcing you to own one. However no one should be allowed to tell you that you cannot own one if you are a law abiding citizen of this great country of ours, The United States of America.

With a six shooter it would be extremely hard to kill 30 people at a time without being stopped first. As if you didn't understand how math works. LOL

Blah blah blah....
How many throats did mass murderer Jack the Ripper cut with a knife? Blah blah blah.... Then there's the Boston Strangler mass murderer. Didn't he use knives and nylon stockings? Yikes, let's write a new law banning the purchase of nylon stockings. blah blah blah......

Thank God those two characters didn't have 30 bullet magazine semi automatic weapons. Just think of how many they could have killed at one time if properly armed?

Al, you're not a terrible person, I mean that sincerely. You merely have some extreme thoughts and perspectives, in my opinion, that's all. And I am entitled to an opinion right Al? As you are.
I still like you Al, but you seem to have gotten meaner over the years. That's all. You just seem so intolerant of folks who disagree with you. Why can't you accept that we can agree to disagree witout nastiness? Take this as a public olive branch Al, will you?
