For the past 6 years I have been working on a project very dear to my heart. Tommy Wonder was an absolute inspiration to me and his "Nest of Boxes" a thing of both genius and beauty. It inspired me to return to university as a mature student and study a degree in special effects and prop building. I spent a year of my degree recreating his alarm clock version of the trick and then the past four years performing it 12 shows every week.
Tommy found himself returning to this effect over and over again looking for improvements and I have found myself doing exactly the same thing. Whilst I would never be so bold as to say I have "improved" on Tommys masterpiece I would say that I have "stood on the shoulders of giants" to create my own version of the effect. A version I feel sure Tommy would have enjoyed and I am thrilled that the magical spokesman for the Wonder Estate, Dick Koornwinder and also staunch defender of Tommy Wonders legacy Tom Stone have both given their support to the project and feel it is worthy of its place in the magic community. My offering is called The Marvelous Wonder Phone and its main difference to anything that has come before is that the outer box is a clear british telephone box style box and the inner box is a traditional telephone "Deal or No Deal" style. The Marvelous Wonder Phone will be a VERY limited edition and will go on general sale at Blackpool Convention next year. Before that I will be selling two "road test" models. I have been using my own box in performance and I am sure that I have ironed out any problems but this is an expensive piece of kit and I do not want any problems once general sale starts. If anyone is interested in taking one of the two road test models they will be available at 50%. This is not a close-up trick. It is a stage cabaret prop and is very exclusive. It would only suit the serious pro performer or a magic collector and will be priced to reflect that. Whilst final price is not yet fully confirmed it will be mid four figures USD. |

Let me start of by saying that Tommy Wonder would of loved this unique step forward. The time, thought & effort gone into this project is astounding !! not only that, but the prop is a piece of workable magic. I have known Matt for many, many years & he truly works through his ideas props thoroughly & performs them on a daily basis to paying customers, so you know you are getting a quality tested routine & a superior prop that does all the hard work !!!
Having seen the project develop over the years the price you pay, will be a fraction of what has gone into this piece & you will truly have a piece of unexplainable magic Great Job Matt Best Wishes Mark |

Can we share a little more actual informatiomn here please rather than all the hype? Please?
No disrespect by "whilst" you make this sound like an extraordinary new twist from a respected performer... there is absolutely zero info other than dropping some names and a 4 figure price.

Hi, sorry if you feel I am hyping. I am very much against hype. The reason I am being a little obscure is because I am only planning on making 20 Wonder Phones and want to keep the exclusivity. I am just letting the community know the product is now ready. I have been very open via pm sharing videos and more descriptions and if anyone is genuinely interested please contact me. I know this may not be the best way of selling "en mass" but out of respect for people who might wish to invest a large amount of money I decided I would rather not have the merely curious knowing too much.
This is a high end professional stage piece and as such does not appeal to 95% of the members here who are mainly into close-up. |

Is the reason for the high price tag due to the fact that this "does not appeal to 95% of the members here"?

I just had the pleasure of seeing a taste of Matthew's Wonder Phone and see what this thing is...
In a nutshell it seems like something that would 100% be suitable for stage or cabaret - a Vegas type entertainer might find this to be a gem. I could also see this as lending itself to a superb comedy type routine. The phone used is a British old style. There is quite a bit of engineering that must have been involved in creating this - essentially it involves making a spectator's cell phone disappear (in whatever manner the performer chooses) and the phone reappears in a completely unexpected place - deep within an object which you would never expect to find the phone and which was never physically handled by the performer. There is a *distant* similarity to me (and I am by no means an expert on this type of effect at all) to something like a m****r predict**n system - except with this there seems to be no need at all for an assistant and everything happens in real time while the audience is watching. I would be curious as to whether the unit is fairly silent (without revealing too much) or if there needs to me a little ambient noise in a room? Overall - clever and kind of an over the top prop.

Sounds great. |

Not sure what that question means Mike but I will try to answer sincerely.
The high price reflects the quality, the amount of time each one takes to make, the amount of research and development that has gone into this project and the exclusivity of the limited number. I think top end professional cabaret and stage workers will see this for what it is...... An near self working stage prop that will play for a good five-ten minutes minimum (I have built a 25 minute cabaret piece around this). It is modern, relevant and completely baffling. |

Here is a trailer for the Marvelous Wonder Phone. I have tried to make it as "hype free" as possible. Any questions just ask. Cheers

I will say that Matthew Wright is one heck of a Craftsman, here he posted a picture of his work on the Tommy Wonder Watch In Nest Of Boxes. Very high looking work for only making a one of piece.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=26 From your previous post listed above, are you being vague because this is nothing more then Tommy Wonder's Watch In Nest Of Boxes, only using a Cell Phone. You do know that Cell Phones are on the way out, and now are considered Dinosaurs. Hard to keep up with technology these days. It would be helpful if you said what exactly you have created. Another person tried the "PM me and I will tell you" thing and it he was not received well, take a look in the Tricky Business section. Really, would buy anything from a person that said, I have a trick I made from a Tommy Wonder idea, send me $5000 and you will be one of the proud owners. Well, I can make you a real deal on the New York Brooklyn Bridge, you will become famous. Just send me a check for ten million. |

Hi Bill,
Thanks for your concerns and I fully understand them. As you know, I have been working on this project for many many years and I would hate to think that I would in any way be harming tommys legacy. That is why I have been in constant contact for the past two years with Dick Koornwinder who I am sure you know is the "magical protector" of the Tommy Wonder Estate. He is happy for me to go ahead with the release and has said it is very different in method to Tommys original. Tom Stone, a staunch defender of Tommy Wonders legacy has also been kept " in the loop" about this project for over two years and also says that this product is worthy of its place in magic on its own merits. I have not given full details of how the effect works....for obvious reasons of exposure and that is why I have asked any interested parties to contact me directly. As I have said, there are many differences between this effect and those that have gone before....including Tommy Wonders.....and the many that went before him. If you would me to go into further detail exposing the method a little more Bill please contact me directly. Regards Matthew |

I received my Marvelous Wonder Phone today and what an item this is.
The work that has gone into making this is amazing and the operation of it just brilliant. Just about everything is custom made and works like a dream, yes it's expensive but you can see where the cost comes from. I've been playing with this over and over and it's going to get some serious use in the run up to Christmas. This does everything you would expect it to and looks great as well. If you have a place for this in your act get it!

Great job, Matthew - the prop looks fantastic! A really clever updating of the original effect, the use of a borrowed cell phone is brilliant. Love your magic, as do all my magic mates here in the states - original, unique, and best of all, fun and ENTERTAINING. Looking forward to whatever you have coming up next -
