I have to agree with all of the accounts of Jr's floating light bulb that I saw in 1976. Wow! Not much better. Okay, maybe a TT with a silk, too.

Best magic trick: Copperfield doing impalement in the mid 80's, when he was impaling Joannie in a jealousy themed presentation. Golden Gate Theatre, San Francisco just a few days before the China episode aired. My jaw dropped. Also his water levitation in Lake Tahoe sometime in the early 90's I guess.
Not a magic trick, but one of the best magic experiences I've had: I lived in Monte Rio CA for a number of years. That small town is home to The Bohemian Grove, an exclusive private club of the richest and most powerful men in the world. The Bohos put on an annual talent show as a fundraiser for the local school, the catch being that you had no idea who you would be seeing. The acts were some of the best and brightest in their respective fields. I walked out my back door, walked to the outdoor venue, paid my five bucks, and halfway into the show Harry Blackstone Jr. was introduced. He was great, of course. He died not long after that, maybe one or two years later. An amazing experience. |

Best trick I ever saw was the first time I ever saw Chop Cup done right in front of me. Two large solid balls at the end. They didn't fit no matter how I tried to make them. Could not conceive (at the time) that someone could 'sneak' them in right in front of me. Just the best to this day, because it 'seemed' as if I had 'experienced' .... REAL magic. Everything I have done since magically has worked toward providing that same experience for any audience for which I have worked.

Dai Vernon's slow motion vanish is astonishing every time I watch it. Don't know if it would be considered a 'magic trick' per se; but its such a thing of beauty in the art of magic that I call it 'the best I've seen'! Lynn

Now my strongest emotion in magic was 24 years ago when Albert Goshman flew over to Paris for my 40th birthday and started with his salt and pepper shakers. Just amazing audience management and misdirection.

Although as noted above Chop Cup is still my favorite magic routine. Upon reflection I think that single best trick I ever "experienced" was the first time I has Coin Thru the Dental Dam performed for me and I was the spectator who pushed the coin THRU! I have never had any equivalent 'tactile' experience of magic as that of 'feeling' the coin 'vanish' from beneath my finger and fall into the glass. Wonderful trick. It's a shame that it's difficult to find the proper dental dam anymore.
Best,
Brad Burt

It's a trick question - If you saw the magic trick then it would be worst magic you have ever seen.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Hello 123crampt
Happy Holidays... Tough question, I've seen the Masters do basic Effects utilizing rudimentary Methods - it KILLS; conversely, I've seen not-so-masterful Performers do the more advanced stuff (created by the Masters) just "harm slightly" (lol) that said, some of the best Effects I've seen in a long time are (I may be banished from Magicdom for daring to actually say this in public - lol) are some of the C-U Effects performed by Blaine/Angel ;-) in all seriousness, tho, their ideas do sometimes get my creative juices flowing to create similar Effects that can truly de done live without camera-editing enhancements (and they have some of the greatest most respected names in Magic as Consultants, so they must be doing something right (k, guys, lemme know when I'm allowed back into the fold - lol) |

Hello ko_brian
Happy Holidays... are you referring to "Immaculate Connection"? I remember seeing it as a teen performed by David Copperfield on one of his TV specials - I literally ran out the next day to Tannen's to get it it's the Effect that inspired my passion for pure "knuckle-busting" sleight of hand - lol - remember Paul's admonition in the SOM manual: "practice it till your fingers bleed, then put on some bandaids & practice it till the bandaids wear out" to this day, it's one of my fav effects to do impromptu with a borrowed deck when someone asks inevitably asks after doing card Magic "do you know how to cheat at cards" (I use the "marked cards" premise; it's one of the very few effects I haven't modified too much at all as I do with most my Magic tomake it my own", I do it ALMOST by-the-book - lol |

Lance Burton doing a version of Torn And Restorn Napkins on one of his tv specials. He does the trick outise in front of his house on his driveway after playing catch with his dog, then he goes on to "REVEAL" the secret and just as he reveals it you start thinking "I knew that", only to be fooled into you NOT KNOWING the real secret. It is a memory I will NEVER forget!
