Hi guys, I'm sure this has been done before, but I'd love to hear about some of your collections. I collect magic books - nothing else. But this NVMS, so I'm interested in your non magic collections.
Feel free to share! |

Books, boxing memorabilia, Civil War stuff (generally related to Gettysburg and/or the Irish Brigade), and various things with skulls or wolves on them.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

I collect wooden kazoos. No I am not joking. Have have a modest but pleasant collection of 19. I could have more, but I don't buy everyone I see. I am picky and it needs to be different or unusual from the rest of my collection.

I love to collect all kinds of stuff and always have. I'll start with my first and continue to feed the thread as it moves along.
I have a collection of about twenty or so antique light bulbs, the old Mazda and Edison and other types. The ones that were made of hand blown glass with the filaments shaped like an old wire carpet beater, visible in the clear glass. Not all are clear, some are also frosted and some are are round hand blown as compared to the older elongated types with the nipple on the top. began I bought my first one in an antique store in Harlowton, Montana back in 1973 because it still worked. Thus began my interest. The criteria was that they had to still work. So all of mine still work and I have them mounted in old white porcelain light mounts. And as a credit to the great job professional movers do, these bulbs have traveled with us all over the place and not one has ever broken and all still work. I love that they are so old, fragile and they still work. They're harder to find these days, I haven't found one in years.

I collect expired license plates. I also just recently turned that hobby into a part time business.
I sell a ton of license plates on ebay under the user name tomboleware. I don't collect the really old stuff, mostly just different states and specialty plates. I buy and sell mixed lots, keep a few for myself, and then resell the rest. Anybody wanting to buy, sell, or trade, just let me know. Tom

I collected comic books.
But I could collect lots of things.but fortunately or unfortunately our life has been spent on.the road. The ability to collect diminishes once you need to move a lot or are not home for most of the time. Otherwise I could have a huge collection of many things.

My favorite though is one that belonged to my father, a NY World's Fair 1964 yellow letter on black. I live in Delaware where license plates are serious business. They used to make them in stainless steel with black enamel. Low numbered plates are collctors items and can be sold on the open market and passed to new owners. A plate with a very low number like 47 might sell for a minimum of fifty thousand dollars. Low numbered black plates are status symbols here if you can believe that. Some are passed down through families over generations. A friend of mind who hit on hard times last year had to sell one he had from his family and fetched $8,000 for it. But then as collector, you might already know that. If not you may wish to check it out. Check out PC 34at the bottom of this page: http://lowtags.com/

Bob, thanks for the link. No I don't sell tags like those.
Mine are more in the five dollar range. But yes, some do take it very serious. magicfish, The type plates I sell are often used as decorations in restaurants, bars, man caves, etc. Or used in craft projects. People use them to make everything from birdhouses to purses. I sold one the other day to a guy that covers guitars with them. They cut out the numbers, letters, etc to use in all sorts of projects. I also sell to those that resell the plates for a higher price. As for my personal collecting, I started out just trying to collect all fifty states to cover a wall in my workshop. I'm almost finished with that. Now I'm working on getting all the counties in my state. Here in Mississippi, each county has its own license plate, and there are 80 counties in all. Some of the smaller ones are tough to find. Tom

I'm also a serious coin collector. My father got me started when I was a boy collecting Lincoln pennies. US mintage only (mostly). Several complete collections. If interested PM me and we can discuss. Some foreign coinage as well but only as my interests dictate.
My oldest coins are from ancient Rome, and surprisingly, they are not as valuable as one might think, depending on what you have. It's all about quality of the coin strike, which in ancient times was poor. But it's still interesting to know that I have some ancient coins that might have been in circulation when Jesus walked the planet. My oldest modern coin is a 1799 silver 8 Reales coin which was the precursor to the later-to-come US trade and silver dollars. While not a performing coin magic guy, I'm completely enamored with coin effects snd gaffs because they suit my coin interests and I only yesterday purchased my first TUC in Morgan.
