Since the late 70's I have always kept the 4 coin roll(1 handed) for use in practice...and to use at magic club meetings.
but then...but then.....

Coin roll to the rescue.

Saturday, I had a gig and a sore throat. I was looking for routines that used less voice and mored visual and audio schtick.

I started with juggling, first `1, then 2 then 3.

My goal, besides having a great show, was to have my voice make it through the 43 minute gig.

I used music, acually a sound activated chicken (an ever faster version of the chicken dance music)for the juggling.

I talked about how when you learn to juggle, people always want you to do one more object.
This morphed into talk about the coin roll. again stressing that audiences seem to always want MORE!

Did 1, (CAN YOU DO @) then 2,(CAN YOU DO 3)... then 3..... and yes then four. Actually I got a laugh, when I took the fourth coin and rolled it on my left, as the other 3 were rolled on my right.

YOU CHEATED, shouted a few of the audience members....

OH you want me to do it on the same hand...YES....

and of course after the 4th one....and a round of applause...came....Do it with 5....

Well, I said, I only have four slots between my fingers...but I can do this...5th coin produced...and then into a coin star...

So thanks to those that posted and shared the reminder video here on the coin section of the M.C. You are all appreciated by my much better on Monday, throat.

Harris.

with a change in mind and heart about using 4 coins in a coin roll on the same hand during a show...

Only in my mind.

It played out much better with a live audience than I imagined when practicing at home.

In fact, I created the 4th coin in the other (left hand) on the spot, as a true add on during the program.

It would be pretty dry without the connection with and to the audience.

The routine only lasted 2 or 3 minutes, but it was a great way to rest my dry/raw throat as I did more mugging than talking with my audience.

Nice,

There is another way to do 6 coins.

I have been playing around with 2 sets of 3 coins(as a unit) on one hand.

I tried it with 2 sets of 4 coins...but as of yesterday...3 works better for me.

Also been playing around with starting with 1 coin, adding a second ...and then a group of 2 or 3 in the Same Hand.

I love coin roll Smile and I do it with 3 coins on each and practice with 4 but its not as smooth as with 2 so this is mi fauvorite way of do it its WAYYY more artistical magical... than 2 in same hand. there is a non stop flow with 2 you have to stop for ma milisecond.

here are 2 vids playing as a child with mi coins with the help of my friend BOB Smile

Hello Harris!

Great to "meet" someone else who does the roll with four!

On another forum, recently, (I can't recall which) the coin roll was mentioned. I posted a note of my own experience with the roll.

It started in 1946 when I met the late C. THOMAS MAGRUM. Clem "did" school assemblies almost all his life, and had played the high school in my home town. He became a mentor for many years.

I was fascinated with the roll and Clem tipped me the work. A couple of weeks later (14th birthday) one of my gifts was an 1880 MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR. I nearly wore it out, practicing! (I still have that coin, and still use it with the big Sudbury PENNY.)

I was doing it well, when I picked up a copy of "THE 'SHADOW' ANNUAL". Walter Gibson, I learned was the author of the "SHADOW". One of the stories was about a magicians' club. A character in the story was described doing the roll with FOUR coins. I decided that "if HE could do it, so can I!" I started working on it. A couple of months later, I could do it.

I used it mostly to show off for other magicians! In the middle or late '80s, I met Johnny Ace Palmer at some gathering in Ohio. He begged me to show him the technique. I showed him. A few months later, he phoned and said: "I can do it!"

I have no video tape of me doing it, and, at 81, my fingers are getting 'rusty', but Jon Racherbaumer, can attest to it!

In 1950, Clem showed me HIS FIVE COIN STAR. I learned to do it with both hands. Again, it was mostly to show off for other magicians. In my youth, I was really "into" coin sleights!`

I note with interest that several others in the above thread, do the roll with four. Maybe we should form a "club" of guys who do four!

For me, It's all Walter Gibson's "fault"!!! I finally met Walter at Jay's. (I think it was in the early '70s) We had a great visit.

Yr's, 'til the LOTA is empty!

Mr. Oslund....

Welcome to the IV club. Sounds like you have been in it for a long time.

At 60, I hope to still be doing coin work in my 80's and 90's.

I think it was at a Goshman lecture I became intigued with the roll and classic palm.

Bobby Bernard's stuff introduced me to the coin star.

Got a few short video links in the picture section. Under 20 seconds each-topic coin rolls.
No music, or production value. Just me, the coins at the kitchen table.

This was shot a couple of weeks ago. Nothing fancy just coins and finger flourish. Not magic but as I write above an interlude....

Artistically, one or two still look the best.

3 or 4 impresses some people and scares small animals.

The coin roll is a relaxing way to watch TV .You can add coins and do both hands as time goes on . The best is that they only fall on the couch and not all the way to the floor

During the filming one of the English pennies fell to the floor and vanished.
We laughed as we learned of a new coin technique.

Brown art!
