There have been a few pop up recently but generally that has been a tough one to find. I know it took me a couple of years to track one down. Many times when some people see how valuable a particular effect is we see more pop up for sale. If I ever see another one at a decent price I would grab it.

I'd be thrilled to pick up one of these, but so often when listed there is a caveat stating that they are broken.
Not owning one, I can only speculate on the workings, but assuming there is commonality with Invisible Zone, it must be a great pleasure. |

The one currently listed is unopened.

Cool. Is that in the buy/sell forum?

They tend to post every few weeks. There will always be another. And another . . .

Not always. The only reason they're coming up so often now is because of the high price. Once all the guys who are willing to pay a lot have their copies, the price will drop again and you'll see them disappear from eBay.

Got it. Time to save my pin money, then.

Or the price drops and peopel panic and sell for lower prices. In other words it is all about supply and demand... if it is in demand and short supply prices are high... if that demand goes away prices drop.
I paid $600 for a book two years ago that was IMPOSSIBLE to find. My purchase caused all sorts of other peopel to start listing the same books. Suddenly the price dropped because the impossible to find book was not quite possible to find. That established a new (much lower) price for this book which now commonly trades for the lower price (about $150 - $200). So yea... I got the book but I paid 3x more than it sells for now. Of course if I never bought it for $600 the others may have never come up... vicious cycle. |

Interesting how pricing anomalies arise with thinly traded collectibles. I've seen it, too, with children's books. A childrens book typically listed for $200, but so thinly traded that no other copies are listed anywhere obvious on the net, might suddenly pop up for $5 on Amazon, then be snatched away, never to return. Probably happens with childrens books more than magic books -- more easy to condescend to childrens books and sell them cheaply.

I purchased a first edition hardback copy of "Cards as Weapons" online a few years ago for literally $2 plus a few dollars for shipping. This book typically sells in the hundreds and is considered very collectable.
Obviously the seller (oddly enough a major book chain) just did nto know what it was and I was in the right place t the right time to snatch it up. When I saw it listed I sort fo assumed it was a mistake and that I would never actually get it. I was surprised that the transaction when through but still thought that I would get a refund e-mail at some point explaining the mistake and saying the book was not in the store or whatever (this has happened to me before). Instead a few days later a near mint copy of Crads as Weapons showed up! Probably my best "score" ever. In fact the actual book was like new... it cracked when opened... the cover had some shelf wear from sitting around... no compalints though! But I think with these REALLY niche collectables anything can happen. You can see Tenyo trading at high prices and low prices... there is not a large enough pool of buyers and sellers to ever really stabalize it. I recently purchased a Billscape for $75 which is not a steal but for a brand new unopened copy about half what I would expect to pay... you just never know. |

The recent Le Grand David auction is another case in point -- another species. (Not to go too far afield). There, the issue wasn't that no one had heard of the auction. To the contrary, it was reasonably well publized. But the auction involved so many big ticket items that there simply were not enough buyers to absorb the items at their worth. Many items sold well below value.

The value is only equal to what buyers are willing to pay.
Today the value of a "Mirage" is very high. It might be lower in a month. I bought an "Ultra Tube" on eBay for $150 within the last 6 months. It's hard to imagine that happening at the moment, and it was pretty surprising that I won it. |
