"Greetings from Patrick Page Magic
We published the hard back 1st Edition of Magic Page by Page written by my dad, at the end of November 2011 and we sold out! We have now issued the 2nd edition and here it is. Prices for Magic Page by Page 2nd Edition Softback Version There is a simplified pricing structure inclusive of postage and packing (shipping) which reflects our actual costs: • UK based customers £48 http://www.patrickpagemagic.co.uk/index.......uctId=33 • Customers based in the Rest of Europe £55 http://www.patrickpagemagic.co.uk/index.......uctId=34 • Customers based in the USA and the Rest of the World £60 http://www.patrickpagemagic.co.uk/index.......uctId=36 Shipping to UK based customers is by Second Class Mail and for all other customers shipping is by Air Mail at the Printed Paper rate. What is different about the new 2nd Edition version? The book is just the same as the 1st Edition with the following changes: • We added a few people to the list of people whose help with the book we wished to acknowledge and who weren't included in the first edition. • We added a few extra photos in the book of my dad • We made a few corrections to some very minor errors that were spotted in the 1st edition That's it. We haven't changed any of the words. It is exactly as my dad wrote it. We would have risked being struck down by a bolt of lightning had we dared! For those of you who already have the 1st Edition, thank you for buying it and keeping his magic alive. We are told by many that this book is likely to go up in value. Let’s hope so. We are again endebted to Matt Field (Editor) and Michael Albright (Book Designer) for their assistance in producing this 2nd edition. Information on Magic Page by Page and what’s in it! A thousand copies of the book were printed and we had no idea how many we would sell. Some suggested that we should only print 500 copies as people do not buy books any more. Well, my dad spent a lot of time and took a lot of trouble to write this book and much of this was done when he was unwell. He was determined to finish it before he died and ensure that the secrets of his magic were passed on to future generations. He died just a week after completing the Foreword for the book “Random Forethoughts from Patrick Page” and never got to see the book in its final format. My dad lectured all over the world to magicians and created magic lectures, teaching tapes and DVDs to share his knowledge. Where he devised an effect based on an earlier invention, he made sure that the original inventor was given the credit. The Magic Page by Page book includes almost all of the magic effects that my dad invented. It has 328 pages full of explanations, photos and drawings on how to perform his effects, information on the history behind how an effect came to be invented and how my dad performed the effect over a lifetime earning a living as a performer and entertainer. He also included different variations on how to perform it for best effect. At the root of everything was simplicity – he kept it simple so that it was easy to perform and there was less to go wrong. Dad wrote the book as his legacy to the world of magic and he wanted people interested in magic to have access to it. He made it clear that he did not want the book to be exclusive and owned only by very wealthy individuals. For that reason we deliberately created a very high quality book which was reasonably priced. We are sure that he would have been quietly proud of Magic Page by Page, the wonderful reviews and comments about it from all over the world, and the fact that so many people bought it. By May 2013 we had sold out of the 1st Edition Hard Back version of the book and decided to create a 2nd edition. The weight and quality of the book was a double edged sword as it meant that the cost of posting it was very high, compared to the cost of the book. And postage costs went up significantly after the book was launched. We took on board our customers’ comments and decided that the 2nd edition of the book needed to weigh a lot less to make it more affordable to post. At the same time we did not want to sacrifice the quality feel of the book. We came up with this soft cover version that weighs about 2/3rd of the original hard back version. Although paper and printing costs have gone up making the soft back version no cheaper to print than the 1st edition, we have reduced the price of the book from £45 to £40, which we hope will make the book even more accessible and affordable. The real saving is the cost of postage and packing (shipping to our friends in the USA). We have managed to significantly reduce the price inclusive of postage and packing. If you haven’t already got the book, and are considering buying it, here’s a little information on what is in it; (there are lots more details on http://www.patrickpagemagic.co.uk/index.php ) Foreword: 14 pages of the Foreword written by my dad and including photos. Editor’s Preface: 3 pages of background to the book from the editor, Matt Field and acknowledgements to those who helped create the book. The original hardbound was 70£ shipped to the US. Since they didn't reprinted as a hardbound book, it would have been nice if it had been done in PDF form or make it available for sale in the US.

I don't think it would really work as a pdf. The pages are in an unusually large format and there's a lot packed in to each one.

I know it's a good book, I just don't want to spend close to $100, with shipping, for a softcover book. Most just don't hold up well with use. The covers get bent easily, especially on larger books. The pages come loose.
