Payne, like you I don't see 3D movies. I remember years ago when I was told "dances with wolves" needs to be seen in a theater. I did that, and thought it was a fine movie. Seeing it on a TV years later, I agree it loses something. The director meant to demonstrate the vastness of the plains of the U.S. and on TV that just doesn't happen. A minor point? maybe it is a minor point. As far as Gravity goes, I think I will break the piggy bank for this one and see it in 3D. It will be my first 3D film in recent times, but from what I hear it will be worth it to the experinece.

Movies like Monsters and Up! are cute in 3D, but this one truly makes you feel like you are a part of the movie. The story line is good, but it's the effects that "make the movie", and not in a trite way.

I enjoyed the movie in 3D Extreme. It was slow at times, but kept you awake wondering how she is going to get out of the mess she is in.
I rate movies based if I want to see it again. This is a one shot viewing for me.

We caught the afternoon matinee so the ticket prices weren't "out of this world". IMAX really captured that vastness of space and with the addition of 3D it was over the top! |

Plot synopsis as related to me by a female friend,
"A woman crashes a car yet again!" She enjoyed the film immensely. |

I'm in the minority. I saw the film last night in 3D with my family.I didn't like it! One of my sons aged 21 loved it and my older daughter, son and my wife liked it.
This was one big roller coaster ride with no breaks. I found it to be sensory overload. The special effects were great if that's what you are going to see this movie for. I enjoy adventure and excitement but need a period of calm to appreciate the ride. I'm sure kids of all ages will love this film. I'm not so sure about adults although judging from some of the reviews and posts so far I may be wrong. Steve |

I closed one eye, saw the same thing, and remembered that he was blind in one of his. We got our money back. I can see how that would be a problem...

I saw this at the IMAX theater near me in 3d. WOW, an absolutely Amazing film. My girlfriend and I were squeezing each others hands throughout the movie. Once this movie starts, it just goes. The effects are absoultely incredible, the most amazed I've been seeing a flim since 2001: a apace odyssee
Highly recommend seeing this in 3D and Imax if you can. mind blowing. |

Has 2001 ever been converted to 3D?

Yeah I was. If you can believe it, my local IMAX wasn't playing it. They were playing a film called Jerusalem. Can't believe they lost the opportunity to show this film. I ended up having to go across the river into White Plains to see it there, so got delayed by a week. |

I think that much of the "suspense" came from the 3-D itself. I would love to have seen 2001 shot using a similar technology. It was an amazingly beautiful movie as-is, but it would have been cool to see it in this flavor of 3-D.

Wow, Payne, big disagreement with you: I found it one of the most suspenseful films I've ever seen. And personally, for me the 3D made the picture.

Gravity just never captured a claustrophobic feeling or any sense of urgency or peril as the astronauts air supply ran out. There were also some nagging science, plot and motivation issues that detracted from the film. But I enjoyed it. I was just expecting a little more from all the hype. I actually like Moon a whole lot more.

Loved the IMAX 3D, but agree it was only an average otherwise. Also felt the precept was rather unbelievable, especially after the realism of Apollo 13... Somewhat disappointed...

Nice article from a former astronut on what the film got right (surprising, quite a bit) and what it got wrong: http://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2013/10/17/what-does-a-real-astronaut-think-of-gravity/#!
