Thanks, Rich- I appreciate that!
Well, yes, I am new here. All of you were new here at one time or another. But I do have 11 years of magic experience behind me. And I own quite a bit of magic. I'm also on the mailing lists of all of the big sellers of magic, and a number of the smaller sellers of magic, so if I don't own it, I might know about it. That's also why I'm here- to learn more. I understand that 11 years of experience still makes me a beginner, and many of you here own 10 and 20 and 30 times the magic that I own, and that living in Wichita makes me a country rube. But 50 years from now I'll be one of the old men of magic, and I'll probably have 20,000 posts here, and I'll need both of the rooms of my as yet unborn kids to keep all of my tricks in, and I'll be very, very experienced; but then I'll probably be both physically and mentally unable to do the things that I did in my youth. Oh, well.

I've not bought everything of docc's, but I do admit to ignoring his ad copy - mainly cos I trust his grounding/education in mentalism....so I kinda ignore his emails and just think "right, does the blurb sound fun or interesting to me?"
and then if I already kinda know it, I trust that docc will still educate me one way or another... I just bought 13 monkeys, and will watch, listen and learn tomorrow and onwards (after cooking my family a very nice steak) - if its a b*ll*t in**x, then great - as they are underused, I have the very nice ones put out by Looch, and I can make (if I may say so) quite handsome ones myself using material that most people overlook... so to be taught by Docc for £12...with something I might already know to a degree, but get his education on top of my own - excellent...
I've asked to be banned

I've been working on it all day. It''s one of the easiest in this plot, but I love to practice ( Larry Jennings said he liked to practice more than perform ).
Amazing value for only $19. And then we have the follow up live call to look forward to! |

Hi RCP,
Can you explain why wanting potential customers to have sufficient information to make an informed opinion is pathetic. In my day job I advise corporations how to improve their profits . Not once have I said to a CEO ... Fool them with clever wording ...you will make more in the short run ...why ?? Because each person fooled you have lost their goodwill for future products and probably their associates they talk to on a regular basis . Writing advertisements is not easy but it is doable . I released a few months back my first effect , after 34,000 views and considered on the best of the 2013 thread to be one of the best effects released this year it is not doing badly . I can say straight away I could have increased sales by clever linguistics BUT I chose not to. There is no single effect that every magician is going to love and perform however you can provided plenty of factual information to allow a valued potential buyer an informed choice . Magic maddy did an excellent job looking at the ad blurs and as a buyer already HELPING other buyers make an informed choice .. I shall be releasing more effects over the next 12 months and for each one my aim is not to fool the buyer but to create an effect which entertains and fools the spectator the person is performing to . You and a lot of other creators that I respect (including Atlas, Loki Kross, Michael Murray, Art Vanderlay - all of whom regularly post on the Café) are honest and upfront with advertising. It can be done and, in my opinion, should be done. And, yes, thank you Magic.Maddy for your honest, impartial reviews. You are a talented performer who we can all trust to help us make informed decisions. Rich |

Bottom line: Is it good? Does it do what it is supposed to do? Do you recommend it?

Will you be doing a similar review of the Syndrome Deck ? There are as many bends in the truth there as there are in the Monaco Grand Prix street circuit Andrew |

On 2013-10-05 22:07, RCP wrote: I’ll quote myself with an explanation to those that asked what I meant. Until the last 60 years or so the Magical Arts were handed down to a select few who did an apprenticeship with an accomplished mentor. First there were books, then DVD’s and now the internet……The art is available to the masses….many that are unworthy of such. Imagine this conversation with Mr. Annemann in 1936 between Theo and his new apprentice Joe Blowed. Joe Blowed: thank you Theo for taking me on as your student, you know I made you coffee so you really owe me. Theo: You’re welcome but did you practice the spirit writing I showed you. Joe Blowed: Yeah for ten minutes but I think you misrepresented it to me….there is no spirit involved dude. I’m not famous yet and you know you lie to the audience and other magicians about what you really do. Theo: WTF…..get lost SO! My point is Docc and performers like him DESERVE and have EARNED a certain respect. You may not like him, like his style or want to buy his products and that is your prerogative. You however are not EQUALS and NEVER will be. Know your PLACE. Your $19.00 bucks does not buy you jack; it buys you a trick, but nothing more. The longer I have been here the less I post and the more I learn. Years ago Jerome Fineley was here more often. He had a very limited and expensive book. I wanted it, he on multiple occasions told me he didn’t think it was right for me but I WANTED it. He sold it to me….I was clueless…he tried to help me multiple times….BUT I WAS CLUELESS to its contents. I didn’t come here and cry, it was MY DECSION…..Only now, YEARS LATTER, does some of it make a little sense to me. Docc is a big personality!... a lot of his stuff takes a BIG personality to carry it. Don’t blame him for YOUR short coming. The reason so few pros come here is because of people like you splitting hairs over what the meaning of IS is. "Laughable...actually just pathetic…..and we wonder why so few pros actually post here" pretty much sums it UP |

That is one of the most funny/sad/sycophantic posts I've ever read.
People are complaining about one thing: inaccuracies in the ad copy. Instead of correcting those inaccuracies we have people shaking their fist at the sky and making these dumb pronouncements. Just don't lie in the ad copy! Problem solved. I don't care if you're Docc Hilford or a 13-year-old kid releasing a 99 cent trick on Theory 11. "You however are not EQUALS and NEVER will be. Know your PLACE. " If you think that makes you sound like anything other than a fawning d-bag, you're sorely mistaken. |
