Huge win for the Tigers, winning on Lester's start without using Scherzer OR Verlander.

Oh excuse me I thought this thread was about saving the fabulous Museums of Detroit from being sold off to pay Detroit's bankruptcy debt.

I agree, Lobo. Detroit is now clearly in the driver's seat.

Scherzer 7 strikeouts and no hits allowed through three innings. Absolutely nasty.

Ten strikeouts and zero hits allowed through 5 1/3. The Red Sox are in their 15th offensive inning in this series and have one hit.

As a lifelong Red Sox fan I have to say I'm very impressed with the Tiger's pitching thus far. Congrats to them for their stunning game 1 win. But now we've managed to even the series in dramatic fashion! I'm not looking forward to having to go to Detroit now. But... if the games are anything like the first two, fasten your seatbelts.

With the initials R.S. how could you NOT be a Red Sox fan?
I enjoyed watching their dramatic comeback last night and hope that the rest of the series is just as exciting. |

ALCS: THIS series proves that baseball is the most unpredictable of sports and thus one of the reasons it is the greatest of sports. Scherzer was dominant, carrying a no-hitter. Boston had been held scoreless then the grand slam ties it and a base hit walk off in the bottom of the ninth evens the series. This has to give the Red Sox a confidence boost, but, I still think Detroit has the edge in this series. Verlander pitches game three in Comerica on Tuesday and let's face it, this guy is tough anywhere. Cabrera is not playing at 100 percent but you would not know it by his stellar hitting in the ALDS and ALCS. Detroit will take this series 4-1. NLCS: Tight games but grrrrr, the Pirates are the better team record wise and thus far played the Cardinals a lot tougher in the NLDS. Not complaining, just frustrated as I believe that a Pirates-Cards NLCS would have been one for the ages. LA's pitching is great but the Cardinals are playing super baseball all around. Both teams' offense has been muted by some excellent pitching. Will the Trolley Dodgers wake up at Chavez Ravine? Even if they do, remember that the Pirates took games 2 and 3 of the NLDS and the Cardinals have shown time and again that they play best with their backs against the wall. Many Cardinals fans I talked to before the NLDS began stated quite clearly that they would have rather have faced the Braves or the Dodgers in THAT series rather than the Pirates as it would have been an easier win. The Dodgers are an excellent team - and with that payroll they had better be. But St. Louis somehow, some way, manages clutch when it's needed. Cards were neither a home run team nor a base stealing team. Their strength defensively is a strong starting rotation, and wow, Michael Wacha at 22 has all the poise of a 10 year veteran! Wainwright goes tonight and that's not exactly good news for a thus far impotent Dodgers offense. Cardinals in 5. World Series: Cardinals take it 4-2 BUT it will be a war of attrition. What a GREAT postseason it's been! Tip o' the cap to Oakland and Pittsburgh for playing tough! Sorry to Atlanta (sort of ) but, they were the weakest team in the postseason (not on paper of course) and choked. |

They had almost identical records, and almost identical runs scored/runs allowed (and OPS). There's very little to choose between them, over the course of the season. BUT the Dodgers have markedly better front-line pitching, which is important in a playoff series, and they were phenomenal over the last several months of the season after a miserable start, suggestive of a team that is better in October than their overall record would indicate. I also disagree that they played the Cards any tougher than the Dodgers have, they won a lopsided game and they lost a blowout. After two games, they were outscored by two runs, as the Dodgers have been. As I'm sure you know, wins are largely a function of runs. The Cards have been fortunate that outscoring the Dodgers by two runs over two games has led to two wins. The Dodgers are scoring fewer runs than the Pirates, but allowing fewer, too. They haven't given up an easy win to St. Louis yet, as the Pirates did twice. Having said all that, I don't care who wins the NLCS, and I hope it continues to be a great series.

I've got to disagree, Vlad, with your prediction that Detroit will beat Boston 4 games to 1. I honestly don't believe they are in a position to beat Boston three straight. I do give Detroit the edge, though.

Having their best player rendered less effective by a bone-breaking HBP in the first inning of game one (and causing him to miss game 2) didn't help the Dodger cause, either.
