An excellent pilot who had to maneuver his Mercury capsule manually when mission-critical elements failed.
He leaves John Glenn as the only living Mercury astronaut. |

One of my childhood heroes, along with the rest of the Mercury 7. May he rest in peace.

Growing up all the astronauts were heros and the Space effort was inspirational.

Amen Mary.
For those of us who were kids when they pioneered the space age, they were and still remain my favorite American heros. I'll never forget Alan Shepard's first flight, short as it was. I was in the eighth grade in junior high school, and the entire flight was broadcast on the school PA system. Amazing times. I later obtained Alan Shepard's autograph on a sheet of the 4-cent Project Mecury stamps. I cherish it. Not to take anything away from Scott Carpenter, but the original seven were all American heros. The Right Stuff indeed. God bless them all and for Scott Carpenter, God grant him rest.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |
