Calen Morelli posted something exactly like this on his instagram. I'm not sure if steve hooked him up or if Calen had the same idea or what. All in all, this looks really cool.

It's neither one of their idea's. It's an old concept that has been done with many different objects for many years. This is no different. It's the same thing if someone came up with a different object to float using the Fearson hook-up. Same method, just a different object.

Here is a link to the floating wine bottle optical illusion. The rope has been hardened to give it strength to hold up the bottle. If you think about it, it's not hard to make your own.
I just took a pair of old headphones, sprayed them with a certain something, and then shaped the headphones before they hardened. The cool thing about this illusion is you can virtually make anything look to float using this method. Here is an idea I came up with a couple of years ago utilizing the same method and a deck of cards. The cards look like they are sliding out of the box which looks to be suspended in mid air. The cards come out in a way that they look to be sliding out from the slightly tilted card box onto the table. The cards sliding out is actually supporting the card box in mid air.

This is really a neat novelty, but when would a person use it. I and most people I know always carry their phones on them all the time. Some even take them to bed with them.

No problem Casshan. I am not sure that using headphones is an original idea using the same method. Many things have been done using this very same concept. Almost anything from small objects to large objects.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this anymore than someone who comes up with a new object to float using the Fearson hook-up and sells it on the market.

Danny why are you encouraging someone to make their own and hinting how? It is like I finding a magic trick for sale and posting why not make your own as it is not hard. Not very supporting to the person who came up with it is it? It is irrelevant whether it is an old principle. It is the application or juxtaposition of elements used that make something unique.

This isn't a magic trick. It is based on a method that isn't secret but easily attainable from some craft books based on making creative designs using normal objects.

But now that this is being marketed by a magician, it becomes a magic trick by default, and therefore nobody is allowed to make it themselves.
Those are the rules, you know!

And dug for him a shallow grave, and laid his body down Half a mile from Tucson, by the morning light One man gone and another to go, my old buddy you're moving much too slow We can share the women, we can share the wine |

Sprayed them with a certain something
What on earth can you spray on a set of headphone leads that would take the weight of a phone? |

I'd tell you but I would be exposing a trick. Just like Jack Straw said, "But now that this is being marketed by a magician, it becomes a magic trick by default, and therefore nobody is allowed to make it themselves.
Those are the rules, you know!" ;)

I wouldn't dream of ruining a set of headphones for this. However, if I wanted to find out it would take me all of 2 mins on google.

Good man, Danny!
Never give up the secrets. My dad begged me on his deathbed to tell him how an invisible deck worked. He refused to spend the $10, so I didn't tell him. I have no regrets! He should have paid me the $10.

Whatever this is, I'm sure it can't be duplicated with just a can of spray. Steve Fearson has quite a track record as an inventor/illusionist. He sold an illusion to Copperfiled, Maybe he'll sell these to Apple for all their stores.

Absolutely Zombie. No spray liquid known to man would hold a phone in that position.

I assure you there is, but the illusion is also about finding a balance point that doesn't make it look like the earplugs are holding it up, and making the earphones look like they are naturally dangling from the phone jack.
Of course you can simply take a plastic coated wire instead, put on the earplugs and bend it around unti you find the balance point. To do it with a mini portable diskman I recommend a wire.
