I'm experimenting with publishing on the Amazon platform and I put the 2013 Magician Income and Salary Report survey on Amazon's free promotion.
You can download it for free and read it on your computer, iPad or Kindle http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F8RGGFI Even if you don't have a Kindle, you can read it using the Amazon reader at http://read.amazon.com If you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate you leaving a review on Amazon. I appreciate your comments! Andy |

I hope it doesn't have a money value next to my name. I would be ashamed if my magician friends knew how little I made. LOL

Read this report.
It misses the fundamental concept that if you have an act that stands outs or create personality. IE just not selling a magician, the fees can much higher and less competitive.

Yeah, I've gotta say I'm not sure what the purpose of this was and why? I think too many varying factors go into pricing and earnability to properly be able to represent it in a report. The offering and making of this report had other purposes for amakar which I get, but I feel such an approach is quite flawed in several aspects.
Just ask any magician how much they perform and what they earn/charge and they'll tell you exactly what you want to hear. Unless such a report and survey was taken professionally and legitimately based off of the submission, review and confirmation of actual executed performance contracts, I fail to see much value to and "I said so" survey. It can be interesting and informative I guess if you approach this from the right "grain of salt" perspective. Most performers that make decent earning typically will not participate in such surveys. This combined with many magicians "exaggerate" their claims, makes trying to document such a task questionable at best. I guess if you approach it with this in mind it's okay. This could be very helpful if it broke down different performance markets and geographical markets and was done based off of verifiable documentation, which would have been a major undertaking and still skewed as many magicians don't even use a contract or would be able to provide verifiable contracts or tax records. Herein lies much of the problems with magic is that many various levels from which one can operate. |

I think that it would be more accurate (although much more difficult) to interview the people and venues that hire magicians to get an honest accounting of how much is being made in magic. That method would take a lot more than 98 surveys.

Thanks guys!
I definitely understand interpreting these figures with a "grain of salt". When I first did the survey, I heard similar concerns about how do you quantify someone's art, show, etc. It is subjective but in examining the data, it was interesting to see the range and trends. The next time I run the survey I will do a more detailed demographic so each performer can adjust their rates for the cost of living in a given state. Thanks! Andy |

Interesting to see where the market place is on pricing.

It's only available for Windows 8.
Is there any way you can make available for us behind-the-times folks using Windows 7? |

Everybody lies. Magicians doubly so.
Interesting to read? Yes. Helpful at all? Not in the least. Appreciate the time and effort though. |

When it comes to my income I tell everybody the same as I tell the IRS. That way I only have to remember one lie.

I think I'm going to lower our fees now that I've read this... Apparently we're massively overpriced... (Sarcasm)
Seriously? You guys are charging $200 for a school show? Seriously? Grow a pair, create something worth selling, and charge appropriately... |
