Hello,
We've been hunting around for a number of months for the charters for a few rings in the area, but we can't find the originals. An old TVP (who has since passed away) had the charters, and we think they got lost in a flood. Some members are sure that we never had an original charter, and the IBM kept the original - we only had a copy. Others have said without the original charter, our ring must dissolve. Can anyone shed some light on this? |

Contact Sindie at the main office (office@magician.org), Dan. She can provide your current TVP or Ring Presidents with copies of the Charters. Our Ring keeps a footlocker that is passed between Secretaries/Historians. All of our vital documents are kept in that well-marked footlocker.

Charter certificates are quite a funny thing, actually: our original charter certificate was lost to the ravages of mismanagement eons ago. There're about 4 members (some present, some past) about whom smart money would guess it's lodged somewhere in their attic(s).
Sindie did, some time back, send me a photo copy of our original charter certificate and it's properly buried in some Yahoo file folder up in the 'cloud'. People make me laugh about charter certificates.....what, if you don't display it on a table in a $7 frame from Hobby Lobby at each meeting, you think the IBM police are going to throw you into prison? Trust me, if you send in a monthly Ring Report with a recongnized Ring # on it.......you're a Ring. Our Ring is 27 years old and I can say with 80% certainty that we've never had a single IBM officer EVER visit our Ring in-person.....not ever. I'm not insulting the IBM as an organization....there are some very nice, smart, wonderful people involved with it......I'm just saying that, in 2013, the presence/absence of a piece of paper with some 32 year-old signatures on it is a laughable measurement for whether or not a Ring is legit. Don't quote me on this, but I don't think the IBM keeps (permanently speaking) ANY original charter certificates.....the clubs keep those. Pick a Ring number, schedule a meeting and have fun!!
His face isn't really this long in-person!
