Well, not sure where to post this but thought that anyone familiar with sealed box/envelope predictions might be able to help.
My daughter is about to lose her first tooth. A friend told me that when they were a kid and they left a tooth for the tooth fairy, they would always seal it in an envelope and sign the flap to make sure it was not tampered with but by morning the tooth was always gone and money was there in its place in the sealed envelope. They thought it was the most magical thing ever. My friend's clever father would work the tooth out of the corner of the flap and then slip in the change without disturbing the glue on the flap. So I'm looking for something even more impossible. Any ideas for what my daughter's first tooth could be sealed in, box/envelope/bag/etc, that I could get into during the night to do the tooth fairy switch? Obviously I have the advantage of plenty of time to cover my tracks during the night so the more elaborate the better. Let's hear your ideas. Thanks! |

That's adorable. What about a sealed box which your daughter helps you decorate and a teleport envelope she signs? Place the tooth in the envelope, seal it and have your daughter sign it. Place that in the box, seal it up, and leave it over night. In the morning, open the box, and open the envelope to reveal the tooth is gone and in it's place is the money and a note from the tooth fairy about how pretty of a box it is.

The old trick of sticking two envelopes together with wax or removable glue would work: pre-set the money in the "front" envelope, seal it, and then stick an envelope over the back. She can then put the tooth into the "rear" envelope, seal it, flip it, sign it (in fact, signing the face of the front envelope). In the night, remove the envelopes, separate them, and return the signed one with the money in it.
Sure, you asked for something different, but I like the envelopes. Perhaps because in my childhood, the "Tooth Daddy" [sic] would leave letters as well as money in exchange for my teeth. Awwww! And at the end of the day, using (say) a pay envelope that is completely glued with no space at the edge of the flap, is just as impossible as anything else, even to a 4-year-old.

If you wanted elaborate you could make it more involved for her - and after the tooth is whisked away, and as its her first tooth, the fairy wanted her to know that in the future, the fairy will be invisible and fly around her at night if its ever painful, and will help her sleep...you do this by switching her tooth, for a tiny fairy sized map...
she follows the map, out in the garden, looks into a plant/tree root/bush and there's another little velvety bag..inside that is the letter saying "sometimes its hard growing up, other times its fun...now you've lost your first tooth, we at the fairy home have decided that as you're such a special kid, you can have two coins, cos you're special...but ssshhhh don't tell anyone else, ok? apart from your dad...you can tell secrets to your dad...we look forward to more teeth coming our way - and if any cause you problems, we will send a fairy to dance around your tooth at night when you sleep to help you if you promise to be good... love, the tooth fairy PS - I've also put two chocolate coins *here* for you and your mum to share" obviously the *here* is up to you...

Scott,
As your daughter is about to lose her first tooth, you may not have time for this: http://www.treasuresandjewels.com/tofake.html I bought one for my daughter. When she lost her first tooth, the tooth fairy left the bracelet with pearl charm. Each following tooth received a special coin and another pearl. My daughter is ten now and the bracelet is almost full. The magical presentation ideas could work for this as well. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=14&3 |

For my daughter I created an alto ego and became........... Buttercup!!
The tooth was laid to rest on top of a little mound of salt on a small piece of cloth, and formed into a little beggars purse which was placed under her pillow. In the morning she discovered the tooth had been replaced with a coin wrapped in a piece of parchment, with the words 'warm me!!' written there on. She presented her excited findings to me and asked what we should do. I suggested we place the unfolded parchment on a radiator. I had of course taken on the persona of Buttercup, and written a letter using lemon juice with a fountain pen. Watching the expression on her face as the brown frail looking writing slowly developed was PRICELESS!! Now however I had created a rod for my own back. One evening whilst walking around our garden I noticed something hidden in a border of flowers. On inspection I found three tiny little heart shaped letters (which I still have to this day along with all her teeth). My daughter had taken to writing to 'Buttercup' asking a myriad of questions......... It was a long night writing magical letters in lemon juice, but man did I love watching her as she warmed them up, and avidly read them over and over. I lost count of the letters we must have swapped, and to be honest I felt a little sad when her last tooth finally fell out, and Buttercup bid her last farewell. ENJOY EVERY MINUTE!!! Regards, Ian. |

My first idea was to use the method from Paul Harris’ ‘Window of Opportunity’ to insert something bigger than some change into the sealed envelope (like a note from the TF perhaps). Second idea was to nest two or three fully sealed envelopes inside each other but I don’t have a method for that besides actually taking apart the envelopes and gluing them back together. Chaz93 mentioned Ted Lesley’s Teleport Envelope. I’m not familiar with this gaffed envelope; is there somewhere to learn this besides in Paramiracles? Or any gaffed envelopes that could be nested?
Secret notes written in lemon juice, tiny maps and scavenger hunts; amazing. Lots of really great ideas so far from everyone. |

Methods need to be kept downstairs though, in inner thoughts...

Yes of course, I'm not asking for methods here but references to sources would be great.

This isn't just for kids, you know. When you get to be my age, you start putting teeth out for the fairy again. (I wonder how much she'll leave me in exchange for a full upper denture?)

Reading these other replies, it's obvious I'm not a father. I feel so cold and logical and bland now...
But seriously, lovely work dads!

Bob, would you like me to bring Buttercup out of retirement for you?

On 2013-11-07 16:02, rasp wrote: Absolutely! Your story reminded me of something I did with my oldest daughter, Lana Jane ("The La"), when she was around three years old. We had a family tradition, from the German side of my family, where children put their slipper on the window sill during the ten days leading up to Christmas. In the morning they would find a small toy or piece of candy allegedly left by one of Santa's elves. Lana was, and is, a lot like me, and decided that she was going to stay awake all night if she had to in order to see the elf (who I told her was named Elmo.) I think she would have done just that and wouldn't sleep until she saw him. So, when I put her to bed, I surreptitiously dropped a toy into her slipper in the window, turned off the lights and left the door to her bedroom open. She was standing up in her crib, looking back and forth from the window to the door, ready to call out if she caught a glimpse of Elmo. I had an old P&L reel and tied a green silk to it. I ran the nearly invisible line across her doorway so that when the reel was released she would see a green blur shoot by. The first time I let it go she didn't see it. The second time I called out, "Lana, are you still awake?" before releasing the reel, knowing that she would look toward the door. I released the reel and she shrieked with joy, convinced she had just seen Elmo run by. She hollered for me to take her out of the crib so she could check her slipper. And there she found the toy in the slipper she'd put into the window herself and which she "knew" had been empty before Elmo came. That was thirty-four years ago and she still talks about the time Daddy made Elmo appear for her. Good thoughts, Bob |
