First, my apologies if posting this comes across the wrong way. I'm just very excited about this project I've been working on and I wanted to get as many thoughts from other magicians as possible.
Over the past few months I've been talking with several other magicians (mostly closeup performers like myself), to discuss managing events, deposits, contracts, and so on. I'm also a huge iPhone fan and so were the other guys I've talked to. So I decided to write an app for magicians to keep track of our events, deposits, clients, and help automate our emails. What I'd like to share is no where as comprehensive as ShowBiz CRM. My hat is off to the incredible hard work they've done to build their system. ShowBiz CRM does much more than my app and I don't want anyone to think that my little app is a replacement for their system. Mine is much more narrow in focus. ShowBiz CRM really is a comprehensive solution and I think they did an awesome job. I just wanted to create a native iPhone app with a very niche focus, instead. My question for you guys is what would you feel is important to you when keeping track of events. Currently, this is what I have in the app: * Enter an event, date, time, fee, etc. * It automatically sets reminders that use the iPhone's notifications to touch base with clients ("Hey, you still owe me that signed contract!") * The notifications also remind you to touch base the day after for thank you, then months later for annual events * Keeps track of when your deposits/payments are made and shows you on one screen who owes you what. * Creates personalized emails based off client's info and event info from several email templates So as you can see, it has most of the basic things we've all been trained to do as performers. What else do you see as "must have" capabilities for an app like this? Once again, I'm not looking to replicate the scale of ShowBiz. The scope and scale of their site along with their subscription model is AWESOME. I'm just looking to fill a need I had and several others had with a smaller scope app that is a couple bucks on the App Store with data on your phone instead of in the cloud with a subscription. I'm looking forward to your thoughts! Scott PS, Here's a link to a video I made of it in action: http://papertreeapp.com |

I was literally just thinking about how I'd love showbiz as an app. If they can one day merge, that would be even better.
One thing that comes to mind is being able to access the clients phone number quickly. I was in a bind finding a venue last night, and it took a while to get into showbiz and find it, copy and paste the number to call the client. Having a way to pull that info up quicker, and call with the touch of a button would be nice. |

Nice App. I was just thinking about one this week. I use the QuickBooks product for the quotes and billings and wanted a mobile app. But quicken wants you to subscribe to the online version to get an app. why should I pay more for something I already own? I have downloaded this app already today. Nice.

Liam, for better or worse, I'm just a one person "team" so right now I really can't efficiently create a polished iPhone app concurrently with an android version. I'd rather do one really well than two that both are just "ok." Not ruling it out, but I'm not focusing on that right now. Curtis, there's already a notes section. Good minds think alike! And maps is a biggie that I'm working on. It's going to be in the next update. Plus I hope to have cool stuff with it like GPS logging to track miles automatically for expenses and other surprises. |

I was using the app today. Couple points and/or questions. What if your show is less than one hour? You only have hourly increments to chose from. In the above description, you talk about email templates. Where are those located? Thanks.

If you tap on the "00" part of the time entry screen, it will increment in 15 minute intervals. I'll make a change to do less than one hour. Great suggestion.
For the email templates, once you enter the client's email, when you tap on the email icon it loads a menu to choose from several templates. For now, its just those pre-installed templates, but I have the ability to add your own templates in the next update. I wanted to polish that interface before releasing it. Just didn't work as well as I'd have liked when it came time to release! Of course, any of the templates can be edited once you choose it. Curtis, There's a link of the app on the website, but I'll include it here (I didn't want to come across as too forward in my post). Plus I didn't think that was allowed on the Café, so I opted to not include the direct link. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/paper-tree/id720917501 Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback. I love hearing what's important to you! |

Wanted to edit that quickly... I thought you were talking about the time entry , which has the quarter hour segments. I'll add that to the duration screen also, which doesn't have that yet. Thanks again!

Magicpro12, I've added your suggestion about having the event duration be under an hour. I've also added several other enhancements and submitted this new version of Paper Tree to the App Store. If past times are any indication, it should go live within the week and show up in your app updates.

Scott,
That is cool. Nice. Personally I would like color palette wheel. A way to upload html templates for html emails. Maybe a sync to the Native Iphone calendar. I got mine syncing with Google Cal with Free exchange.
Control your Show Music from a PC from 800 ft away with a remote control. Send me a message to find out how......

Chris,
I got your email and saw what was causing your issue. Looks like there was an issue with certain phones that caused a bug when the update launched brand new (with no events) instead of as an update from a previous version. It's been fixed already and is currently submitted to Apple. It'll go live as soon as Apple sees it. Thanks a ton for pointing that out! Scott |

Chris, the update is live on the app store. Apple was able to slip in the update very quickly! I think the app will re-download as the old version first, then show up in your App Store as an update for free download. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!
