Hi everyone! Here's the newbie coming from France!
My name's Florian alias Artemis, I'm 17 and I live in La Rochelle just next to the Atlantic ocean For many years I was fascinated by magic and the greatest magicians, but I never had really begun, I just watched some shows and was amazed by the tricks, as much by the great illusions as by the close up magic. Growing up, the studies took a lot of my time and I never took the time to really work on magic, until this summer, after Now you see me I really felt this passion come again in myself and I began to look around for some magic stuff. I tried many bad tricks, tried to go to quick with the learning, registered in some french magic forum and then I thought it would be more stuff on English or american websites, and following the advice of a friend from another forum and I fell in here! I'm already a good street Hypnose performer and have some skills in mentalism, and I wanted to learn how to do basics from close up as cards and coins. I already began with the topic for the basic cards skills So see you soon in the Café! |

Welcome Artemis17,
I do some Card Magic and Stand-Up, which includes a little "Mentalism" but I have no clue about Hypnosis. What is the first Hypnosis bit that you performed for a stranger? How did you get the nerve? -Mary Mowder |

Thanks
I'm very interested in Card Magic, do you know any youtube channels with good videos about basic techniques of card handling ? Long story short, the first part of a Hypnosis routine is the pre talk, when you explain to the subject what Hypnosis really is about and how it is absolutely not dangerous; then comes the Set Piece, using techniques often referred as "tests of suggestibility", such as the Magnetic Fingers or the Magnetic Hands, in order to see how the subject answers to your suggestions. What do you mean by "get the nerve"? |

Hi
I don't recommend you to learn the basic techniques on YouTube. If you really wanna learn something good, go to some online magic store to buy some. Cheers Tk |

There's a good technique for that. Begin with asking people about little things, then after a few ones and after you've become more self confident in your approaches, engage the conversation a little bit, do have them speak, engage them in the chat, and eventually come along with hypnosis, have you ever experienced some mental state like that etc, and introduce yourself as the Hypnotist It's clearly better if you already know some friend who do hypnosis, we for example are a few ones who hypnotize, we have a sign near to us with with
written 'Free hypnosis session' and the people comes by themselves @jiqngtk: yeah I know but don't you think that the very basis of the different sleights of hand may be on YouTube? I'm gonna check the post about the best DVDs to buy. |

Is hypnosis easy to learn?

I always thought that you need to know how to "bring them out of it" safely at the end. That's the bit I'd be worried about most - permanently leaving someone believing they are a chicken or something...

Hi,
Indeed, there are basic sleight of of hand tutorials on YouTube. However, you don't get an in depth explanation on some of the handlings. For example, you learn how to do a pass on YouTube. They just teach you the physical movement but not application on how to use them or cover them through misdirection and things like it. Therefore, I recommend you to buy a set of dvd on card magic. You can check out the encyclopedia of magic by Daryl. He's great! |

It's not that hard. You just need the good infos, and to know and be aware that the safety of the subject is the most important thing in hypnosis, before entertainment.
At the end of each session the Hypnotist 'wakes' the subject up, don't worry. It's not literally a wake up, and people don't go out of trance just like that, but the Hypnotist gives the subject good subjections to help him awaking fresh and keeping a good and positive impression of his hypnosis experiment, like at the count of 5, you'll get out of trance and feel totally awake, as if you were just getting out of bed after a good night of sleep, 1 you feel yourself more alive, going back to us, 2 you can move your arms and legs a little, and see how they feel rest and fine, etc till 5 when you wake up the subject and have him open his eyes. I have in my possession a really good book about hypnosis, Reality is plastic by Jacquin, I strongly recommend you to purchase it, you've all in it about impromptu hypnosis and it's really worth its price. Thanks Mr. Danny I surely will! @jiangtk: I understand. I only wanna learn the very basics, the moves, I will purchase the royal road as a starter for my cards skills. Do the DVDs are worth it? I find books better. |

Wow I didn't even know hypnosis was real! This is really interesting. (Never actually seen hypnosis done)
I think I'm gonna check out the book! Thanks. |

Hypnosis is a real state of mind don't doubt it, people in the street or on stage don't fake it you'll maybe use some tricks, but you'll see all that in Jacquin's book

Getting a little off on the tangent here, but Kreskin has stated that he does not believe in a "trance state" and, in the past, has offered a Randi-esque reward for anyone proving it did. Those who study "real" hypnosis will understand things like suggestibility and permission. This is not an "altered reality", and it's actually not all that uncommon. Like learning, it is a self-motivated activity. An instructor may present you with words to focus on, but the event itself is up to you.
More than one hypnotist has suggested that if you've ever been driving a car and "suddenly" realized you don't actually recall the last five minutes, you were hypnotized. At least one has claimed that if you've ever bought anything from a late-night infomercial, more than likely... And most will agree that any time you are "in the zone", whether playing sports, studying, or creating, that is a form of self-hypnosis.
...what if I could read your mind?

DW, very interesting. I guess hypnosis is the art of making or enabling those moments to happen. That IS real.

I thought that not everyone is susceptible to hypnosis. Isn't that why a lot of the stage performers do the 'see if you can separate your hands' thing at the start...?
