I'm very impressed. Has this version been published ? It's a lot different from the Vernon version I used to do.

Kjellstrom,
You perfom the effect very well - nice and fluid. In terms of the actual effect I prefer Vernon's handling. I think the ending needs to be sufficient to break up the routine of card simply reversing. For example, in Vernon's handling the Ace of Spades fails to reverse with the 'normal' twist and requires a different gesture. Finishing with an ITHEC in the spectator's hands is also effective. |

Very nice handling, Mats. Very smooth and pretty. Fred Kaps was really one of the greatest, wasn't he? Every time I come across one of his tricks or a Kaps presentation, I realize how fortunate we who follow are. Magic is certainly a better place because Mr. Kaps passed through it.

Good jobs, Mats. I've always prefered the idea of using A-4 of a suit than the four aces. It makes the effect easier for the spectators to follow (I believe this was an idea of Bro John Hamman's).
Spadone, I agree, I always finish with ITHEC. Finishing the effect in the spectator's hands is the strongest kind of magic you can do.

I recommend you see the Mexican Revolution. You will like it. It is the most amazing twisting card effect you can find.

This routine comes from a swedish book about card magic written by Ã…ke Hallberg and Ulf Agdur.

Beautiful! I am familiar with the original version, but this is great and magical. IMHO, it doesn't need anything more!

Great job Matts! The routine can also be found the Fred Kaps lecture notes and showcases a technique you can find in the modern books on card magic like 'card college'. Hurray for Ascanio!

Great looking, but is it really accurate to credit to Vernon's "Twisting"? I'll trust that Fred Kaps did a version this way but just for the sake of argument...
No twisting No aces (well, one ace) No Elmsley count (the key move of Vernon's) Unless I miss my guess, yours uses a "hidden" fifth card, otherwise why use the Ascanio Spread? Except for the fact that cards appear face down one at a time, what are the similarities? I'm not upset, whatever you're doing looks great, I just think it's more accurate to leave the credit to Fred Kaps and not confuse the issue by mentioning Dai Vernon's *other* routine.

The credit goes to the famous Fred Kaps [Abraham Bongers, 1926-1980], but, he was inspired by Dai Vernons Twisting the Aces and then he reworked his own version of this classic: but I think he rotated the cards around its center and he ended with the backs changed to another color plus he used 1-4 instead of four aces, which is easier to follow (you can do it with aces, if yo want...) More videos is coming soon...

Kaps had shown me this when he first came up with it and I got a description of the handling from him in a later letter. Mike Rogers also came up with a variation using the Ascanio Spread.
FYI, Ascanio taught me and my pal Matt Corin (sadly deceased) the A.S. and we happened to go to Chicago from Holland and the first person we showed it to was Ed Marlo... and the rest is history... I believe Racherbaumer also published Kaps's routine in his monograph on the Ascanio Spread, published by Loyd E. Jones' Magic Limited.

I usually do this effect and it's great. I always do changing the color o the cards at the end, the people become crazy.
