Hi Frank,
Sorry, but you won't find any non-jacket discussions on either DVD. The website for The Steel Ball Routine clearly indicates that a jacket is needed for the execution of this routine. If you don't wear a jacket during performance, this routine will probably be of no use to you. This routine was created for the venues where I perform which include high end private and corporate events, so I almost always wear a jacket. If you're a street performer that wears a vest or a t-shirt, most of the methods in my routine will not work, although I have had some customers that were creative enough change the routine to make it useable in street performance without a jacket with great success. So I guess it can be done. You just won't be able to do it exactly as I do it on the DVD. Respectfully, Lou Serrano |

Spent last night watching the dvd. and playing with my balls.
I have to say, the box really doesn't do it for me. So I did some thinking and this is what I've come up with. I went to my local handyman shop, armed with a steel ball, and found that it is a lovely smooth fit in gery pvc 32mm plumbing pipe (Note of caution. The 32mm refers to the outside diameter, the insides are not all the same so always check the piece you intend to buy. The first one I took was too tight) I also bought 4 32mm end caps. These slide over the pipe by about 2.5cm (1") I cut down 2 of the endcaps until they only slid over the pipe by about 5mm In the centre of these I glued a small piece of foam to act as a cushion (only put this in the middle of the cap so the pipe has room to slip into the cap. I then cut 2 pieces of the pipe to length ang glued 1 shortened end cap onto each tube. Next I pushed the full size caps onto the other ends of the tubes and ,with a steel ball in each tube for weight, I sprayed the 2 units first with plastic primer and then with aluminium chrome spray which gave a nice dull silver colour with a slightly rough texture. Lastly I put another foam pad into each of the full caps, and around the unpainted top of each tube (because I sprayed them with the caps on) I put a little double sided tape to make a tight fit so that the caps would not slide off in my pocket, but could be removed when ready. Hope this is of interest. |

Great idea Steve,
I have ordered Steel Ball Routine and have been thinking of what kind of container to use when it arrives. I think I will use your tube idea and turn a nice piece of wood for the tube. The wood cap will screw onto the main tube. Thanks, Eric |

That certainly is a different approach. I would think though that those would be a bit more bulky than the boxes. Now, perhaps a thin wall brass pipe would work nice.

Lou,
I still vividly remember seeing you perform this during my first visit to the Magic Castle. This is a beautifully routined, almost poetic effect. It's a true pleasure to watch. I was actually a little disappointed that you decided to market it since it was clearly a very strong signature effect of yours. To be quite frank, I didn't even read the advertisement on your website. I didn't have to. Having met you at the Magic Castle, and having seen you perform the effect was more than enough for me. I have no idea what to expect of the trick, but I TRUST the man I'm buying it from. That's the best guarantee there is. I can't wait to receive the deluxe edition I just ordered. Thank you for all you do in magic. Kent

Hi papasmurf
It seems from your post that you have the facilities to turn wood. I f you made two tubes for the steel balls hopw thin could you make the walls? Are you prepared to make some to order? My tubes are OK but I like the contrast wood and steel. |

I wish every magic dealer had the same kind of customer service Lou has. I recived the steel ball rountine in the mail I watched the dvd and went to look at the props for the rountine to find that half of the main prop had been left out. I contacted Lou he sent me another set out with a surprise gift in the mail. I contacted him last thursday and I recived the props today. I would highly recommend the rountine to anybody that likes strong close up magic. my 2 cents...

I decided that this wasn't right for me. I returned the package to Lou, and he refunded all my money, including his cost to ship to me, pronto. Lou is a class act. If you think this might be right for you, go for it. Lou truly gives a "no questions asked" money back guarantee. He is the kind of guy you want to deal with.

Hi Sammy,
Thank you for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated. I think I read in a thread somewhere that you are left handed, so I can see how some of my handling could be an issue. Anyway, I thank you very much for the support. I should clarify that my return policy is not a "no questions asked" policy. It is a better than your money back policy which is clearly stated on my website . In order to improve my product and offer I have to ask questions, otherwise I'd have no idea what the issues are. In any case, my returns have been less than 2%, and for that I am grateful. Respectfully, Lou Serrano |

Dany, if you get a chance, come check out the show at the Magic Castle. I'm there till Sunday.
I've been performing the Steel Ball Routine all week long, and the reactions have been absolutely amazing! It's been an incredible experience being able to perform it over and over again. The number of magicians that have come in to see the show has been staggering, and have included some top names in the biz. I feel blessed to be able to perform the routine in front of so many magicians in such a short amount of time. Fun, fun, fun. Lou Serrano |

Saw Lou early in the week and had a great time. An excellent show and the steel ball routine was a highlight (though, Lou's closer is quite strong too).

I too am left handed. But, I have theorized that only one of the essential moves on your routine necessarily has to be done right handed. Am I correct? Ken Abbott |
