Seems pretty legit. It ships next year, is NOT a magic item. Available for 50% off right now.

It's a credit card that stores all of your other credit/debit/gift cards. I'm only posting this because for a long time I've wanted a way to consolidate everything TO CREATE SPACE in my wallet. I ALWAYS swap in and out effects because I do need to carry cash and a bunch of everyday cards. In theory I can only carry one now. I'm thinking other impromptu magi may have the same concerns. This device supposedly even alerts you if you leave it behind at a bar or what not.

Preorder/crowdfunding things like this are always a gamble, but I missed out on pebble and some of the other ones and I didn't want to this time.

If this should be moved, please do so (I wasn't sure where to post it).

Very cool concept. But I feel it is a bit early to judge its effectiveness. There are major problems that need to be considered (and addressed):

- Many entities have started moving towards chip-enabled cards for security. Maybe in one year's time, chip-enabled cards may become the norm (possibly mandatory) and this whole project will be sent back to the designing table (unless they already started investigating ways to do so).

- I would definitely not be happy to have my 'normal' credit card used without authorized access. I mean, what if someone buys the machine and ends up scanning my card and taking a picture of it (in the process of me making a payment). I heard they will require your billing address to complete the theft but that really leaves me uncomfortable handing out my (non-chip-enabled) credit card at all.

- Accidents, accidents, accidents... What would be done if the waiter taking the 'coin' accidentally changes the 'active' card. It is just an ugly hassle when I think about it.

- Finally, how fast will it gain international support? This will not be a huge deal breaker but for those who travel a lot, or live outside the US, it will be a deal breaker.

- Finally, a $100 card vs. NFC payment is something worth considering. Apparently Google was working on this project before ending it. NFC payments starting gaining ground internationally. More phones are supporting NFC today. Google is pushing it heavily. That and the slow migration towards chip-enabled cards will probably affect this project heavily.

I love the idea but one needs to look at it from a technical perspective to understand the risks it incorporates or at least the advantages and disadvantages relative to current solutions.

Personally, I will stick with chip-enabled credit cards and NFC payments. In case this becomes a successful project in a year's time, then I will most probably hop on board.

The final advice here is this: we are talking of at least 6 months before Summer 2014 (8 to be exact), and this is technology we are discussing. So a lot can happen in that time. And on top of that, they are taking payments now. In the end, you can be the judge.

I hope this helps and I wish all the best Smile

Nice concept, however it will likely become obsolete in October 2015 when the US becomes chip and pin and swiping is no longer allowed. International support is unlikely as chip and pin is already mandatory in much of the world.

This may to superficial, but what a great site design. I like how the various objects react to scrolling actions.

This is cool. But by the time it comes out it will already be dated. It's kind of dated now.

True true....the 2 year battery is a concern as is the reaction to strong magnets...but the concept is interesting enough, and I HATE having so many cards in my wallet. I'd rather replace them with Carnazzo's cards, some packet tricks etc (nerdy I know)

This looks cool but it strikes me as something with a limited shelf life. I travel to usa a lot and every time it astounds me how they still use the magnetic strip and signature in a lot of places, when we've almost exclusively used chip and pin for at least a few years and now more and more shops here support cards where you touch it on the machine. The biggest economy in the world has to catch up soon, rendering this a waste of time. Also; doesn't this in essence provide a means of cloning cards whilst out and about. Getting a persons address must be an easy thing to obtain.

I love the concept but its 10 years too late in my opinion.

The resistance to go chip and pin in the USA has been more to do with the liability shift than the technology. With the mag strip the merchant is liable for fraudulent transactions, with chip and pin the liability shifts to the issuer. As you can imagine, issuers like mag strip. Currently the majority of the card present fraud on UK cards happens in the USA because not only is mag strip still used but in many cases if a transaction is under the floor limit even a signature isn't required. The first time I went the the USA to train one of the banks in fraud management I was shocked at how often I didn't even have to sign for a transaction.

Will the chip and pin system render the swiping on the mobile phone systems such as Square or PayPal Swipe obsolete? Or will there be just new hardware released?

Swiping on mobile phones using NFC is the direction the industry is heading, mobile payment is the next big thing and one day may even replace plastic all together although for a fraud specialist like me contactless does cause an eyebrow to raise as it completely negates all of the benefits of chip and pin. Thinking about it, if coin has NFC then it may have a shelf life beyond 2015.

That looks like it was intended to be a Kickstarter scam but it was too obvious so they put it on a site and sent out a couple press releases.

There were some facebook wifi sunglasses a while back that had the same vibe. From what I see there, they don't even have a working demo. I don't think they'e going to deliver.

I call ********.
