I've been a member for 6+ years and am just now getting around to my first post. I have been interested in magic since I was a kid and given the opportunity to help a magician with his show. Over the past 21 years my interest has waxed and waned. I seem to go through periods where I am passionate about the art and can't get enough. After a while though my interest cools down and I get away from it. I have never had the courage to perform for anyone other than family and a few close friends, and don't have any personal relationships with others interested in magic. I look forward to getting to know some of you here and learning from your knowledge and experience!

Welcome nytalyor21, I'm from utah as well. I know what you mean when you say your interest comes and goes. That's how my interest/practice of magic has been. Hope you enjoy the discussion.

Welcome nytaylor21,
6 years before your first post? I guess you are shy. In only ten years you can try your first "pick a card" on a stranger. Life is short and people are nicer than you think. The first several times are rough but just go for it. After the first several it gets easier and better fast. Good Luck! -Mary Mowder |

Thanks Dallas. Nice to know others have the same experience.
Mary- thanks for the welcome. I'm actually not shy at all, and after thinking back, it's probably an exaggeration to say I have never performed for others outside of family and friends. I have performed for a few small groups (although its been a while) and I work with kids which provides many opportunities to teach and perform simple tricks. I don't really consider myself a "performer". And I prefer to have magic come up naturally and organically rather than approaching someone and asking them if they want to "see a trick" (or any similar variation). That being said, I hope to become more proactive in seeking out opportunities to share magic with others, especially adults. As for posting...better late than never! |
