Hello everyone,
My name is Saad, and I'm arguably new to magic. I've been practicing (a lot) the magic arts for 5 months now and I'm receiving my first "shopping list" in a few days now (other than cards). In my country, which is Morocco, if you couldn't tell, magicians are not plenty and there is absolutely no magic shop in any town. I started out with chinese Elephant cards after a now-eight-year-old of experience magician friend of mine finally got me interested (unintentionally) in magic. I later got a few decks of Bicycle Jumbo Face Standard Size decks from a family member living in the US. Since then, I progressed a lot in cardistry, general sleight of hand, card moves and science, rubber band techniques, general palming, stage, audience and deception/misdirection theory and practice and angles knowledge (from Abracadabra!, an old yet invaluable book I got at my university's library). Soon I'm finally gonna get my hands on some loops/invisible thread, a stock of card and other necessary materials, so I'm very excited about being able to learn new things, and create new tricks and routines (I've already got half a dozen of my own in my sleeve just with cards, ring palms and such). I've been in the magic world for a short time now but I can safely say that I'm in love with it (my girlfriend starting to be actually (but not dangerously) jealous of my secrecy and passion). I've gained interest in more "psychic" aspects of magic lately and I came to this forum to find a community that shares my passion, and maybe someone who can mentor/guide me in my research for knowledge when it comes to hypnosis and mentalism. I'm lucky enough to live (most of the year) in a college town, the only one in Morocco, and to study in the only american-type university here. The town kinda looks like a Swiss one, and it doesn't feel like the rest of the country, but you know, big cities like Casablanca are not really that different from the ones in more Northern countries (France, Spain, and to a certain extent, the US). But for people like magicians, it's safe to say Morocco's not the best shot. Best Regards, A newborn magician, Saad. |

Welcome Plexusonfire,
Good for you for pursuing Magic even though it is not so easy in Morocco. From where I'm sitting (California, USA) Morocco seems very mystical and mysterious. There are lots of friendly folks here. You will be glad you joined. -Mary Mowder |
