I'm curious which thread reel you guys consider the best. I want to buy the classic tarantula, but maybe invisible by Damien Savina would be a better decision... What do you suggest?

That's a thorny and complex question, so first we need some critera:
What's your experience with IT? Do you want a gravity reel, a mechanical reel, or an electric reel? Are you performing close up, parlor or stage? First, if you're new to IT, get UFO card or similar effect, a supply of IT/w*x and practice, practice, practice. Assuming you already know that, then we come to question 2. For a gravity reel/static line, you can't beat JoJo's Webspinner. For mechanical reels, Sorcery shop reels are the best- but getting VERY hard to find since James George has moved to India. For electric reels, I would highly recommend two things: AVOID THE TARANTULA AT ALL COSTS. It's crap, plain and simple. If you want to know why, there's plenty of forum threads to be found detailing the issues with this... thing. The Spider Pen Pro is likely the best electronic reel out there (not including Begunia's DeckTR, which I have not reviewed yet). It's a very versatile, very powerful tool- but it is for experienced users only. If you don't know th***dwork from the ground up, all you're going to get is a lot of frustration. This is a pro level tool- it's not going to make anyone who buys it an expert in 5 minutes. Most thread workers have their own pet reels. I use mechanical ITR's, specifically Sorcery Shop reels. I also use JoJo's webspinner as a backup, gravity reel and for static setups. I use the SPP for more involved effects. I rarely use IET/Loops. Mechanical reels come in various sizes; the smaller the reel, the shorter the available th***d and the higher the tension on it. The larger the reel, the greater the available th***d and the lesser the tension. So really, you need to answer the three questions and decide which effects you want to concentrate on. ALL effects can be done with simple static hookups; reels are merely tools that make it more convenient to do various things. For in depth information, after you have 50 posts, look at the bottom of the forums page for "Threads, Reels and Anchors", which will answer many of your questions. Welcome to the forums, and Good luck!

Thank you for comprehensive reply!
I only have a little experience with loops and I'm copletely new to IT. On your advice I'll practise with IT for now, and later after I get experience I'll get Spider Pen Pro for more impossible effects. Thanks again for taking your time to reply! |

Avoid the Tarantula! If you want a retractable ITR this one In my opinion is the best and easiest to work on:

Myself, if I was a beginner...It would be this:
