I'm interested in using a comedy juggling routine as an opener. Any suggestions on where to begin?

I can juggle up to four balls and use clubs. I already juggle a bit while I'm waiting for birthday party kids to sit down and situate. Before hand, I am usually mingling, magicing, and ballooning. I feel that a funny juggling routine as an opener would utilize a skill that I've developed at the same time focusing attention before the madness of my birthday party magic routine. My question is, what kind of opening routines do jugglers utilize for their audiences?

When I learned to Juggle, it was for me. I learned it because it captured my interest and allowed my mind to both focus and wander. I taught about thirty people in college and thought myself pretty savvy. I never graduated to five balls, but I can hold a conversation with eye contact when juggling.

Maybe a juggling routine would not be a terrific opener. I know Silly Billy's Magic Coloring Book routine is absolute gold. Totally worth the price of Seriously Silly and the DVD. That's a tough intro to beat. However, I'd like to expand my children's party routines and still feel in my gut that Juggling possesses an entertainment value that can be shared with an audience in a humorous fashion.

Any suggestions, youtube links, or facebook channels would be appreciated.

I have always got a lot of laughs with my scarf juggling routine, but jugglers don't really share juggling routines.

Juggling can definitly be used for warming up routines. For warming up think of ways you can get your audiance involved (as a group)in your juggling. You will have to make up your own but as an example make them do/say something everytime you drop. Or drop evytime they do/say something. And of course you can use a lot of things for "do/say something" and you can subsitute "drop" for a lot of things!

As Al said most jugglers do not share routines...unlike magic there is not a huge market of juggling tricks/routines being sold. My suggestion is to try to come up with a routine on your own. You can incorporate jokes, sight gags etc...Eccentricks by Charlie Frye has a lot of good ideas. Don't steal material but YouTube can provide some inspiration.

A common 3 ball premise is describing how you learned to juggle. Another suggestion is one ball is bad and keeps changing the pattern...

Go at it!

I sometimes combine the can you do 3,4 or 5 objects with my coin routine.

I can juggle one ball....toss and catch
I can roll one coin ...do a one coin roll

When you can juggle one, people say can you juggle 2.
Wait for audience to say can you....
Juggle 2 in one hand
coin roll 2 coins in the same hand

Then audiences always ask...can you juggle 3
wait for audience...juggle 3
coin roll 3 coins in the same hand..

Then audiences ask can you do the 4 coin roll.
(aside-I never learned to juggle more than 3)
wait for audience to ask about the 4 coin roll.
get 3 coins going in one hand...pick up the 4th and then roll it in the other hand...and THEN
do the 4 coins at the same time in one hand...

(sometimes I roll coins 2 or 3 as a unit and can get 4 -6 coins going in one hand....

Jugglers are great at showing others skills. I thank the ones that have helped me.
