I'm doing an analysis of the internet and breakpoints of energy
consumption as to the limits of hardware and energy consumption. The growing number of users, websites, and the technical demands of the network itself are an issue and is the very reason why Google Facebook and the like locate near energy hubs for the lowest possible cost considering company location logistics. Search engines are one of the areas of peripheral study. Yahoo! actually gave Google a huge boost when it posted a link to go along with it's own Jerry's Guide which was the official Yahoo! search engine back in the year 2000. One must wonder if Yahoo! knew at the time that it had just given it's most formidable competitor a leg up on the billion dollar business? Having said that, which search engines do you use? http://www.duckduckgo.com and http://www.blekko.com are two choices. Here is a brief list of the search engine carcasses. Lycos, Excite, AltaVista, Magellan, Infoseek, DogPile. Netscape commited a huge business error by lack of foresight, by not latching on to one of them instead choosing to rotate between five of them. Case in point, Yahoo adopted Google. Regretfully the master was slain by it's servant as Yahoo! witnessed a rapid decline in visitors once folks accustomed themselves with Google. It became a frontpage itself. Here is a list of social networking sites that you will never hear of because Facebook bought them all in hopes of eliminating any competitors. Threadsy, Spool, Tagtile, Gowala, Strobe, Friend.ly, Push Pop, Karma, Lightbox, Glancee. Someday Facebook, will find itself in the same situation as Myspace, to be replaced by a new social networking site that meets the demands of social interaction in our world today. Our Universe operates with limits to all networks and social interactions. You have to look no further than to study ant colonies. Predicting some patterns in daily life and business has become quite accurate as a result. We are in for some real changes to our world. The internet is an inextricable part of our life and is here to stay. Our government relinquished control of the net because it understood that a central command was in direct opposition to it's growth and sustainability. Myspace failed because of Tom's central command philosophy. Facebook has a central command but is trying to wean itself off of some of the authority. It limits the amounts of friends you may have; but is already showing patterns of decreased useage and a much slower rate of growth. The purpose of my study is to foresee and predict a fundamental change in our useage and necessitation of using the internet on a daily basis with our current energy demands and consumption. I have participated in massive battery cell installations and solar array projects to augment the temporary power emergency feeds of any failure to data centers. Thankfully the network functions without a weak point it cannot be killed off were it for a failure to any one of it's data centers housing the various hardware that make useage possible. Make no mistake, such as we need food for energy to power the neurons in our brain, the internet needs just as much power to fuel it's demands and the demands are growing at an exponential rate. The net uses roughly 20% of the world's energy output according to my data. I am also studying the demise of many former search engines and the reasons why said failures occurred. What I found is that most if not all of the failures were the direct result of having a central command structure as opposed to a more organic environment. An example is Twitter. It's users actually coined Tweet The users also started the hashtag symbol idea which is now a signature use of Twitter. These things were not created by the CEO so there is some merit to relinquishing control of your creation. You can look at The Magic Café and see how it compares to the media sites in regards to clutter and the management of it. There are far more forums than one can visit and it now has lots of advertising areas. I used to be able to visit most forums each day, but now find it far too daunting and time consuming. It's very similar to Facebook, where we seldom read everything on the plate. We only eat what we like, if you will. Facebook according to it's founder wasn't intended for profit at it's beginnings, but advertisements and updates from so many friends now finds a quite cluttered environment. The mobile version you will find is devoid of most of it, not by intent, but by the limits of cell phones themselves. There is something to be learned from this as Facebook useage from desk tops have decreased whilst phone usage has increased. I am curious as to any of your thoughts on any of the areas that I've briefly touched on. I drifted quite a bit, but it's a very dynamic study. I owe you a drink and a meal, if you made it this far. Sincerely, just me |

Wouldn't the careening of the future social media be dictated by the technology available? How can we know where it will go when we don't know what new toys await, or what those new freedoms and abilities gift us?
Or: How can we predict the reactions to unknown new technologies/refinements?

Well I thank you fine gentlemen for giving me the time.
Now you see why I mostly post images instead of sharing what thoughts run through my mind and related research etc... Part two of this post is coming up, if you are interested? I promise it gets much more interesting as it fleshes it self out. I am going to post some predictions to our world based upon products, software, and technology that I have either been a part of or have witnessed. |

Aluminum oxynitride is transparent aluminum and something that I have worked with.
I created a very nice magic effect with a few pieces. It's currently expensive to manufacture, but the costs associated in its manufacture will decrease soon. It is currently used to cover the lenses on missles, the optics on our drones, bullet proofing material, space craft and other classified projects. I am part of a project that will manufacture those materials for the public. The materials and machinery to implement large scale production of this material are already sitting in warehouses. Construction of those facilities, is the only holdup at this point. Currently Microsoft is using a form of this material in it's smartwatch, but it's full potential has yet to be realized by the public. One such facility will be located in Mesa, Az. The calls are just now going out to the local unions for tradesmen. Many of them were former solar panel facilities that went belly up for lack of proper planning as to growth. The essential environment to manufacture this material is already in place. Think for a moment about the possibilities of this product in your everyday life. What changes can you see from this technology? See through transportation for a safer environment, airplanes, automobiles, watercraft hulls, soda cans, the list goes on and on. Many offshoot technologies for it's use have yet to be considered or anticipated. I promise you that all of this discussion is going to lead back to my study of energy and the fact that we are reaching the apex and breakpoint of the internet as we currently know it. There will be no privacy in our future. It's use has pros and cons for certain, but it is here to stay my friends. These are fact. The internet will implode due to issues with meeting it's energy requirements and ever increasing amount of users. The search function that we currently use in the form of the little box; will be replaced by a human to machine interface that will note the context of our internet searches. If you ask a search for jaguar it won't give you the animals at The San Diego Zoo, based upon a previous search, it will know that you mean the nearest Jaguar Auto Dealership. In short, your device will recognize you. It won't only answer your requests it will anticipate them and even make suggestions before you search for them based on the fact that your calendar will note when you last ate or had a break in between meetings and other errands. You won't be using a search bar, you will use a specific app for your searches. More to come my friends stay tuned and stay with me on this adventure to share our current technologies with the public as we prepare to make our way into space. |

Thought provoking, hermano.
If you haven't, you should look into the writings of Mr. Philip K. Dick; who predicted exactly this trend long before much of the technology we take for granted even existed. "The Great C", anyone?

Transparent Aluminum!
Not the first time Star Trek predicted the invention of a real thing that has become useful and needed to our society!

Interesting & highly useful! [Kudos] Very interesting to know that ~20% of energy generated goes toward the net...
& wow, I already have hundreds of ideas for this transparent aluminum material... My mind is both blown and expanded by what is to come! I cannot wait until its made available for common consumer-industry use. As to the first post - Check out https://startpage.com if you need a semi-working (but supposedly private) search alternative. |

Thank you Ekuth. I'd not heard of "The Great C."
I was familiar with his works, but never really bothered to familiarize myself with this author. I find it ironic that his middle name is Kindred. I'm intrigued to say the least. I'm looking forward to sharing my next post. |

DO read Mr. Dick. He's right up your alley right now, hermano.
If not for that, then for the fact that he was one of the most brilliant SF authors ever. Many of his stories are marrow chilling in their precognizance/explorations of the moral issues attendant with our ever accelerating technology. Small wonder his masterworks are constantly ***ized for the material benefit of Hollywood executives. Poorly ***ized, at that.

I don't know about that. Blade Runner may not match the story exactly, but it was still a pretty cool movie.

The Government will announce details this month of a controversial national identity scheme which will allow people to use their mobile phones and social media profiles as official identification documents for accessing public services.

If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
