You might also look at the Barry Mitchell routine on Chains.

Hopefully others can remember the exact name.

I don't know the effect - but chains remind me about a rope escape I've used -using 1st Corinth. 10:13- ??? Ralph (russo)Rousseau

I'm thinking there is no video demo available. Can anyone give me a description of the effect?

It was originally sold as "The Mexican Rope Trick"
Here's the demo for that particular effect - it's the same handling and effect as the "Chains of your Own Making".

Thanks, Jamie...I immediately thought of a possible message to accompany the effect regarding our "playing" with sin, only to find that sin becomes a stronghold in our life. And, of course, the only Answer that will untangle us from this stronghold.

To those who have used it, does the effect itself receive a strong response? My initial reaction to the video Jamie pointed to was, while a neat manipulation of the rope, and a nice illustration of the message, not a great mystery on its own.

PS: Jamie, I was recently evaluated by a nonprofit in CS, and kept my eye on the climate there for the last month or so. BRRRRRRRR! Didn't get the position... maybe God knew this NC boy couldn't take the change!

The reception is great - because the sight of seperate loops of rope with no knots (except for one loop) is a foriegn concept to most people and is suprising to see.

In the Laflin version the knot is eliminated leaving only loops.

From the description, this is a totally different effect from the original post. I believe that Ginn sells this as just a magic trick. The effect is clever, a little surprising, but not great. I do see how it could be used in a Gospel message: the ropes change places(when you tug on them), which could be used to illustrate how Jesus took our place, our punishment, when on the cross.

Yes, this is a different effect. I think it was mentioned just as another chain-type trick suggestion. Ginn's "Disbanded" uses this move as part of the routine, but I don't think it stands out on its own, which is basically all the Mitchell trick is.

A line I use...

Sometimes the chains, at first are so small and soft, that we don't notice them, till they are to hard and tight to break.(on our own)

We need the Holy Spirit. (Romans 7 to Romans 8)

SEO Magic effect called "Mexican Rope DX" is a "reproduction" of "Lucky Loops", a Mr. Lucky's rope trick sold through Abbott's beginning in 1969 ( http://www.abbottmagic.com/Abbotts-Lucky......loop.htm ). For more see this topic:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=9
Testimony to the effectiveness of "Lucky Loops" is the fact that Neil Foster, upon seeing it, immediately added it to his silent act.
Laflin's effect is "similar" to "Lucky Loops", but change the spiritual message.
