Okay gang, I'm certain that you will all enjoy this enlightening
informative, and pretty doggone entertaining dvd folks! I would have called it "Food, Fun, and Frolics", but "Clap & Cheer" it is. Here is what Master Payne had to say, Mario Morris, is a consummate entertainer with a unique, engaging, and highly entertaining act that can best be described as a quintessential busker with a contemporary twist. As a cup and ball worker myself, it was refreshing to see a fellow performer put his own spin and voice into this classic routine. Mario's performance's are clever, captivating and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Here is the link if you are interested, Clap & Cheer Dvd You get 10% off the price and free worldwide shipping before it's released if you order now according to the link. The first 12 orders after official release will get you a free table cloth. The sacrifice is the 10% off price and shipping fee, so you must decide. p.s. Don't forget, I am giving away a free copy on the thread entitled, "What Do You Want To Be Known For?" |

Here is my review of Mario's new DVD
Mario Morris’ Clap and Cheer, Cups and Balls Review by Tom Foolery So Mario Morris’ new DVD “Clap and Cheer! Cups and Balls” has just been put through my door by the postman. The cover looks good with a Victorian showman and sepia antique look and just a tiny hint of colour. The DVD starts off with some legal information (also on the cover) about who is allowed to perform this routine i.e if you own the DVD you can use the material unless you share a pitch or perform at the same venue as Mario, then he reserves the right to perform his own routine exclusively. This to me is a reasonable request. I don’t have a problem with Mario wanting to protect his living. Following the legal bit there is an introduction using old cups and ball prints, with a voice over by “Master Payne” done in his very deep mystical voice that sent magical tingles down my arms and hands making me want to grab my props and start on this journey of street prestidigitation. The actual DVD starts with a interview with Master Magician “Jeff McBride” discussing Mario’s start in magic and inspiration for the routine. Followed by three full, warts and all performances of his routine, two on the street (door way show and circle show)and one cabaret type setting. You can tell from these performances that Mario has performed it hundreds if not thousands of times and the thought put into every aspect of the routine. Mario goes through the explanation of his routine twice, once with his brief case servante and the second time with his busking pouch. The start of the explanation on the DVD covers the props needed and cup preparation, Mario goes into detail and states you are more than welcome to buy his table when it is produced, but you can perform this routine with a table you already own just provided the surface is smooth. The cups Mario uses are from Ikea but you can use any cups, china, metal even plastic. Mario also advises about loads and encourages us to experiment and try to make them original. One of the attractive aspects of the Clap and Cheer routine is you can source most of the props from your local supermarket, home depot, DIY shop etc. So if your props are lost or stolen in transit you can still perform after an hour or so trolling around these sort of stores. Mario’s teaching is very good, clear and comprehensive. The only negative I have in the explanation section is Mario sometimes fluffs his words and could really have done with a retake in two or three places and a bit more scripting. I particularly like the table cloth pull, giving that something extra to stop walk offs after the final loads. There are two parts to the Bonus material: one being a quick explanation of the Flip stick. This is very brief and covers the very basics needed of this routine: for more information look at some of Shoot Ogawa’s work. The second part of the bonus section is a very good view of the routine from over Mario’s shoulder done silently to music. You might ask yourself is there room for another Cups and Balls DVD in the magic market place. Yes, I think there is, Mario is not trying to have a comprehensive teaching material like the “Michael Ammar” DVD’s, but an alternative route to street cups and balls. He wants to share and teach his routine so magicians can go away and make the routine their own. He also credits well on the DVD. Overall a great DVD with excellent teaching and a must have for any cups and balls performer / enthusiast, street entertainer etc. Mario has shown a deep and genuine love of street magic and lives to inspire and watch people grow. |

Here,
Jeff was telling Mario that if he is going to stay at the McBride Mansion, He must be in his room for bed check by 10 pm Pacific Standard Time. Mario wasn't too pleased, as evidenced by the expression. |
