Hi all:

Have a question if anyone could help. I want to build a set of gozinta boxes rather largish. Could someone share the measurments of the boxes by PM or posting here?

The ones I see for sale are too small for what I want.

Thanks fo the help

The dimensions of the Gozinta box ARE the secret. So you are asking for someone to PM the secret or post it here. Just so we understand your request.

I have made these before, and the ratio of length:width:height is going to be somewhat consistent regardless of size, but the stock thickness MUST be taken into consideration, as that will affect the inside vs outside dimensions of any given box half. The thicker the stock, the more it will alter your dimensions.

With that understanding already in mind, I have been able to determine the measurements I needed by also understanding that the end of one lid half will determine the floor plan of one lower box half (as one must fit within the confines of the other), but also that the longest measurement of that lid piece must be slightly larger than its shortest length, as that lid piece must accommodate the width of the floor in a different configuration. This is where accounting for stock thickness will be critical.

A box made from 1/16" illustration board would have slightly different measurement than one of similar size made from 1/4" plywood.

Also, the thicker the stock, the more critical the joinery of those parts. In the illustration below are two different joint assemblies. Assuming the horizontal and vertical parts are respectively identical, one configuration will give different results than the other.

Not sure if that makes sense, but it is actually not that hard to piece together with a little experimentation and a decent sense for three dimensional geometry.

Hopefully, this also did not overtly expose any secrets.

I agree tat measurements do little good, as all the Gozinta Boxes on the market are made in totally sizes and with different construction materials and methods, some edges match exactly with thin material, others use corner overlap joinery where the material is folded to make an assembly surface.

I have made a larger one that I needed for my show (about 6 inches square) and just took the small version of it and multiplied the dimensions with a calculator. As Michael said keep in mind the thickness. That too I multiplied to get the thickness that will work. Mine was made out of bristol board which is a sturdy cardboard like substance.

My "Theoretical Reality" is an eBook that discusses the Gozinta Boxes for both walk-around, close up, and stage.

Hi,

I have developed a Gozinta Box Construction Kit which can be used to create your own props.

Go to www.magicperspectives.net/gozinta-boxes and download the pdf file which includes instructions.

Simply print, cut, fold and glue.

I see you published my name in your book "The Box Goes-In-Da Box" PDF book without my permission. You did not even notify me, or send me a free copy. I don't think that is very professional of you.

http://magicperspectives.net/gozinta-boxes/

It is on the last page of credits in the sample publication on this page.

Peter,
I enjoyed the Doug Henning version.
I never saw a stage illusion size of the Gozinta box before.

Thanks

I made an error, it was not The Box Goes-In-Da Box, but Baffling Boomerang booklet, you call Jastrow Illusion as in Magic.

Hi Peter,
If you're using the box to hold something - would you express your plan up from the smallest necessary interior dimension required to hold the item that goes in the box? Say the length of a pack of cards in its case if you want your boxes to hold the deck and some smaller items. Defining the smallest interior dimension makes expressing the rest of the dimensions happen as additions, so we can figure the size of the packing box at the end Smile.

@Michael - Etienne L. mentioned a set of lecture notes with a gozinta box routine (using three balls) - is this an item of yours?

:)

I am continuing to play with the TCC Gozinta Boxes I purchased recently and am more consistently performing the effect. Very well made props and good instructions make this a trick I will work on and enjoy using to puzzle my audiences. Well done TCC.

Years ago I had a set on every table at a sales-training event, minus the balls. In demonstrating the utility, mine kept having balls 'accidentally" appear.
Fun and allowed for the discussion of "handling the unexpected" for sales reps. Not familiar with the TCC ones though.
