As ice breakers, I've done a few one-off tricks (spelling, reversed cards, etc) for students who've come to see me for help (I teach college composition) but the semester is all bu wound up, and today was kind of a slop day once students were done final in class essays, so I took it as a good time to do a short three-trick routine.
I'm fascinated by mentalism as far as the patter is concerned, but I think right now I'm trending more towards mental magic as it sort of suits me better than pure mentalism. Plus I still really enjoy learning and practicing pure magical routines. That said, since the topic of psychic phenomena has come up in class, the mentalism-inspiration was appropriate. So I did a simple object prediction (in one class I had three identical staplers and used m*****an's f***e, and in the other class I used three separate objects with m*****le o*ts), then moved into Gemini Twins, and ended with Longe's Three Card Surprise, which played stronger than I had suspected. Students were suitably entertained and baffled. I enjoyed myself, as I'd spent one discussion period a few weeks ago debunking most psychic phenomena and then today demonstrated something that certainly looked like it, although I made pretty clear it wasn't.
