Some great lectures so far. I really enjoyed Eric Mead's talk about Tim Conover. Michael Weber was great. Meeting Roberto Giobbi was a treat and we still have Juan Tamariz coming up!
And the shows! Francis Menotti, Rob Zabrecky, and Morgan & West were all stupendous. Super creative and original. Really character driven. I enjoyed chatting with Francis Menotti today too. Very nice guy. Kudos to Joshua Jay, Andi Gladwin, and Tim Moore for putting together a great convention. |

Hey guys,
So MAGI-FEST has come and gone, and Andi, Josh, and Tim put together a great convention. Everything started off on Thursday night, and the opening show was Francis Menotti with his one man show. What a great show it was, very original and unique. Eric Mead then lectured about the magic of Tim Conover, and it was great that he showed the tweaks that Tim would put on effects, like the Copper/Silver Transposition, and Ramseys Cylinder and Coins. John Armato continued with a talk on making your magic more meaningful, and make people care. Chris Korn finished the night with his lecture, which was also fantastic. Friday Michael Weber did a wonderful lecture on impromptu magic and some mentalism Justin Miller did a great lecture on his material and was received quite well. The Friday Sessionfeatured Fritz Alkamede from the Netherlands, and Danny Orleans. Roberto Giobbi did a fantastic lecture on cards. Rob Zabrecky did his one man show, and everyone was entertained, two time stage magician of the year by the Magic Castle. Morgan and West did a wonderful job with their victorian style and magic. Steve Kline finished the night with a lecture on touring with your magic. Saturday Saturday Sessions host was Michael Kent, and he did his torn and restored balloon effect. We had different type of performers here, like Danny Orleans and his wife Jan Rose, they did a two person mind reading act, also featured was Rune Klan who was very funny, and Chris Pilsworth, who put a cactus into a balloon. Increasing Impact was a highlight as Morgan and West gave a talk on how to increase impact in theatre, then David Williamson on increasing impact in a restaurant setting. The Gala Show featured......David Williamson doing Rocky Raccoon, and Jason Bishop doing illusions, followed by Juan Tamariz in Concert. Juan then gave a lecture on some of his effects, staging, body movement, making connections with the audience and more. Juan had two informal sessions at the tables late at night, and fooled all of us. In attendance, in no order, even though some werent even booked to perform: Asi Wind, Eric Mead, Chris Mayhew, Joshua Messado, Ben Train, Ricky Smith, Francis Menotti, Rune Klan, Garrett Thomas, John Born, Kyle Marlett, Rick Lax, the Penguin team, Sean Dunn, Brent Braun, Ryan Shlutz, Luke Dancy, Fritz Alkemade, David Williamson, Juan Tamariz, Mark Elsdon, Justin Miller, Morgan and West, Rob Zabrecky, Cameron Francis, John Bannon, Steven Minch, Kainoa Harbottle, Curtis Kam, and more Dealers were also great such as: Garrett Thomas, Potter and Potter, H&R Magic Books, MagicSmith, BBM, Daytona Magic, Card Shark, and more. Informal sessions late at night were great as well, with some of the above, and was such a treat to stay up till the wee hours of the mornings sessioning. Just the best. Thanks to everyone. So sorry I missed this. I made the mistake of moving out of Columbus BEFORE I got into magic, and I feel like I pay for it every year!
