Superb!!..I am very impressed with this effect. The quality of the props and what is included in the XII package...Three sets of die-cut and stamped paper templates for the Zodiac, Name routines and a blank set to make-up yourself. There is also a well constructed pocket-index, non-bleed thru marker and well explained instructional DVD, which also has plenty of well thought-out routine and handling ideas.
Each of the three main routines are very strong indeed and all are ideal in either cabaret, parlour or close-up situations but includes options for stage presentations and will also get your creative juices flowing. Is it too early to cast my vote for 'The "Official" Trick of the Year 2014' thread? Paul Mc.

BTW - this works perfect in German language as well. Wish you didn't have published it. It is too good and useful! WAY OUT: I bought the book version. Am I mistaken or is the new Way Out XII different? As far as I understood it, Way Out offers a 3-way out, not 4. In the book is described the procedure to actually do the 12-out version. it is possible, but a wee bit trickier to pull it off. I wouldn't recommend doing it close-up. I think VERY highly of the way out principle Marc has put together. It really makes things easier in a lot of routines. What makes me think is that most of the posters on this thread only think in terms of the suggested effects from Marc and shown on the trailer. As if this item couldn't be used for other things! But maybe it is good so, because then all the others will perform only the Zodiac or name routine ... The construction of the papers: I've made up a file in Photoshop both Din A4 and US-Letter format. With these, I am free to print anything onto the prediction papers. It's breeze - I just open the file, type my predictions and print it out. Then I prepare the papers and I am done. Maybe this is something Marc could put into his package as well, as it would make it really easy to make your own individual predictions. If Marc reads this: contact me for the file, and I will be happy to give it to you for your customers. Concerning the "thickness": Atlas is absolutely right with his procedure. I put my papers in a card press for a couple of days. That way, they will remain absolutely flat. It also helps to carry them in a stack in one of those popular card clips. Take the papers out just for the performance and keep them most of the time in the clip. That ensures a perfect working paper for all times. WAY OUT for me is simply brilliant, and it's use truly is only limited by the user's imagination and ability. The 12-way IS possible, and I even found a way to make it more deceptive, using sort of "motivated black art" on the edges. But that's another story. For the creative magician, Way Out IS fantastic and well worth the money spent. I highly recommend it. Alexander P.S.: I am not a friend of Marc just hyping his product. I know him only through his publications and have, if I remember correctly, seen him only once at a convention in Switzerland for a brief time. What I wrote is what I truly think about Way Out. A real worker's utility item. |

Alexander the book is a 3 way (and the 6 and 12 way). Way Out XII is a 4 way and I agree with you that the applications for this go way beyond simply the star sign and name routines. I'm thinking chair test before we even start to scratch the surface.

Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Also Way Out XII has a bunch of extras. The DVD instead of a book, the die cut pre-printed zodiac papers, a pocket index, the common name papers and some blank papers and a pen that won't bleed through the paper. I got the book first and then ordered way out XII and some extra 3 and 4 way papers.

Hello right back Alexander! I'm pleased to hear from you here! I'm glad you liked that thing you got, and that German was no trouble for it at all.
I'm more pleased that you've found the depth of utility that can be had from Way Out XII. There is an awful lot that this can be made to do. Also, for anyone who hasn't pressed their papers - when opening them, it isn't hard to conceal any troublesome bit by simply placing the finger tips of your right hand over the top middle crease. They traverse the spot anyway, and it looks very natural but gives a bit of added protection when needed. Best, Atlas |

Is that for all four openings?...The right finger tips do not traverse the top middle crease when opening 3 and 4 from the right do they?? |

A couple of the outs provide natural cover, if the dirty bit is at the bottom the angles are very good. If the dirty bit is at the top then Atlas' tip gives you natural cover. I've had the book for a week or so but by DVD only arrived today. I've been playing around with this and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. It is so easy to open the paper the right way very quickly without looking at the paper and with no fumbling, it's almost self working. The pocket switcher is also very good.
My head is spinning with ideas for this. The first one is to predict the outcome of a game of rock paper scissors between two spectators (this uses the paper from the book and the little thing from the DVD so I'm glad I got both). The method should be obvious to anyone that has this but if you aren't sure I can elaborate via pm. The 4 way out has multiple possibilities for a chair test, imagine each chair has an envelope, in each envelope there is only a single sheet of paper but between the four chairs you have 16 possible outcomes or instructions. I haven't come up with the chair test routine but with that many possibilities the sky is the limit. Then of course you can use a miller miracle wallet to perform kolossal killer, any card, one single sheet of paper cleanly and visibly removed from the wallet, ok you would to figure out the off by one but give me some time. Silent running on the other hand you are golden, likewise for Rus Andrews Spoken. Use the starsign reveal to get the starsign for isobellas star 2. Spectator as mind reader effects, the possibilities are endless. Too many people are focussing on the whole 12 way out without a switch or even the switch itself. A single 4 way paper gives you endless possibilities, even a single 3 way paper makes some excellent effects possible. Just one will give you a chair test with very little imagination, 4 envelopes each with a 4 way paper plus 4 chairs, and 4 coloured hats or balloons or whatever and imagine the flexibility that gives you, especially if your final prediction is on a large 4 way out (bung in a d****e e*****pe for the final prediction and the mind boggles with the possibilities). I would go as far as to say if you are a mentalist and you don't have this in your arsenal then you aren't quite loaded for bear!!! Mark |

Nice post Mark. Had a couple of similar ideas as you mentioned e.g. chair test, and RPS by Looch.......... but you mentioned quite a few others that had not struck me before, thanks for that

Ian,
I do looches rps with a single paper then follow up by having 2 spectators play rps this time using the pocket. The thing is in r p s order and the papers are in rps order. Person on left tells me which thing and person on right which way. I'm being as cryptic as possible but that should make sense to anyone who has watched the DVD. Mark |

Some more thoughts on r p s. with the three way thing and the pocket thing both being in rps order and the person on your left representing what to grab and the person on your right representing what to show, you can instantly show any outcome of a game of rock, paper, scissors between two people.
This can be played as a prediction or influence. I'm thinking that for an influence presentation I will position one spectator to my left, and one to my right. I will explain that the paper has the outcome of a game of rock scissors paper and that I will use three games of rock scissors paper to influence them to play the exact game that I have illustrated on my sheet (I am drawing the outcomes for a visual revelation). Then I will simultaneously play 3 rounds of rps with both spectators (I will be using both hands making sure that the first two rounds my left hand is throwing something different than my right hand, the third round both hands will throw the same, this is so that if they draw their game I can highlight how the last game I threw them both the rock that subtly influenced them both to throw the same thing (I can also script around why my rocks made them both throw scissors or both throw paper). I can now invite them to play each other explaining that psychologically they will not be able to help themselves matching my prediction. They play a game and voila, a perfect match. Of course I haven't worked this yet so that presentation will develop and evolve but I think this has the potential to be the best r p s routine I've seen so far. Feel free to use any or all parts of this idea/presentation that you see as worthy of use. (Whilst I like the psychological influence angle I am unlikely to use it myself as I my persona is more along psychic lines that psychological so I am more likely to just perform this as a prediction but it would love for somebody to be able to take the shell I have provided and turn it into a work of art.) Atlas this influence angle might be right up your street. Mark |

I don't have this YET! I have said it before Mark Chandaue is a genius! He always takes good effects or ideas and turns them into real golden nuggets. My little brainstorm after I saw this on WPR was that if you want up to 20 outs you and you have Greg Rostami's Iforce you could do it! Have the Way Out 12 in your left breast pocket and your cell in your right breast pocket with Iforce ready. I am not sure if this would be overkill or not but I am sure there is some reason to have 20 outs. You could possibly layer your outs in a routine. Like I said it was just my initial thoughts.

Thanks for the very kind words but I would be nothing without the giants who's shoulders I stand on. I just like tweaking and playing with the wonders those giants create.
Another idea for this, the cleanest positive negative ever, free choice of any coin, head or tails and you've nailed it. Without saying too much 2 coins per sheet. In the US I believe you only have 6 coins so you are covered, in the UK we have eight. 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2. However if you say "Name any coin, any coin at all, it could be anything from a penny all the way up to £2. Now you don't have to cover those two. Or you could go for the simpler any coin between 1p and £2. Again not too many details but anyone with this should be able to figure it out. Mark |

There are 3^3=27 outcomes in rps. You could of course eliminate the draws, making it 18 outcomes. Or are you just showing the winning hand - i.e. an R, P or S?
I really like the concept of RPS, but I'm not sure of the logistics here. |

Actually there are only 9 possible outcomes to r p s. 3 items to choose from and 3 possible results - win - lose - draw.
If someone chooses rock there are only 3 possible choices the other person can make leading to one of those 3 outcomes, likewise if they choose paper and likewise if they choose scissors. Rather than 3 to the power of three it is 3 times 3. Three for rock, three for paper, three for scissors. For there to be 27 you would need to have 9 different outcomes or rather 6 more not including win, lose and draw (can you list another 6 ways a game of r p s can end?). The beauty of this effect is the average person assumes, like you did, that there are far more outcomes than there really are. The full list is as follows. Rock Rock = Draw Rock Paper = Paper wins Rock Scissors = Rock wins Paper Rock = Paper wins Paper Paper = Draw Paper Scissors = Scissors wins Scissors Rock = Rock Wins Scissors Paper = Scissors wins Scissors Scissors = Draw Check your math and logic again or feel free to point out 18 other possibilities.
