I don't know much about running a newletter (I believe that is the correct term) Just a list of contacts and clients email addresses so that I can send them monthly updates, Video clip, Promotions etc.

I know that my website offers a newletter template, but I don't know the first thing about running a newletter, creating one, and how to mass e-mail it out. And don't know how to organize, compile, and manage a newsletter contacts list.

Do I have to have people sign up though my website? Or can I enter in peoples email addresses by myself. Or even send them a facebook message or email with a link to sign up for my newsletters?

Does anyone have any advice, sources for easy learning (quick, easy, simple, effective), via YouTube or websites.. Or maybe if anyone has some experience and good results using a free program or free online website? Nothing over-complicated needed. Just a way to be able to manage, and mass-email potential clients. And the ability to be able to enter in peoples emails myself without them needing to go to my site and sign up.

Any help would be appreciated. Also any tips, tricks, advice, ideas to help create an interesting newsletter. (Content, material, pictures, discounts, etc.)

One word (well, technically two):

Mailchimp

Best service ever. And for you, free.

Best regards,

I use Aweber. Best money I spend every month. Every single time I send out a newsletter I book at LEAST 2 shows. I send my newsletter once a month to my lists. I have separate lists: 1 list for birthday party/kid shows, 1 list for corporate events, and one list for a new venture I'm starting where I teach people magic tricks.

To answer your questions, the first thing you'll need to do is figure out what email service you want to use. I have used both MailChimp and currently use Aweber. I like Aweber as it is more robust and I can segment my lists, and better tracking. Here's an article on Aweber vs. MailChimp, but do your own homework before you dive in on what service to use as it will be a hassle to change: http://mywifequitherjob.com/mailchimp-vs......oviders/

Yes, you need to have people sign up on your website. If you enter people's email address into your MailChimp or Aweber account and start sending unsolicited emails this is considered spam and you will be shut down. Aweber has the capability to enter email addresses and names and they send an optin email to them, but it the recipient's choice to click the link to confirm their subscription or not. One work around to this is to get in touch with your current list and let them know you'll be sending an optin email and you'd love for them to join.

My final piece of advice is to brainstorm a strategy for what you want your newsletter to say. Take some time doing this because without this you won't know what to do when you sit down to write your newsletters.

In my newsletters I talk about cool shows I've done, share pictures, etc. For my birthday/family newsletter all of my subscribers are in San Diego so I share cool things to do here in San Diego.

In my corporate newsletter I share the latest on convention, trade show and other business related news.

Look at your current list of customers and find some common ground with them and talk about that.

PM if you need any specific help as email newsletters are not only hugely profitable, but also fun to connect with people. And, most people don't do them.
