Hello everyone,
Could you help me out with this: I am looking for books or links that contain tricks that use parts of your body to create magical effects, faked or unfaked. I allready know several very nice ones: the twisting arm illusion, how to stop your own pulse, needle through arm, appartently dislocating your shoulder.... I am particularly interested in effects which are NOT fakir effects where one apparently hurts himself. Thank you, Kristof |

Hi Kristof,
It's worth checking out the book "Body Magic" by John Fisher. It is now a very rare second-hand book though. If you do a search on abebooks.com you may be able to find a copy. I just bought a copy from the U.S. and received it in time for Christmas (a present to myself!). It was recommended by Ed Solomon in his lecture notes handout at the the "Charles Cameron Memorial Gathering" in Edinburgh this year. An excellent lecture which focussed on applying some of these "techniques" in order to create magical moments. Body Magic is an excellent read. Hope this helps. Best regards, Stephen |

Hi Kristof,
Meir Yedid also has Finger Fantasies (video) where you remove or disappear each finger. I would also suggest looking at some of Andrew Mayne's materials. For example, his Pocket Sawing In Half where the upper body doesn't look like it's centered on the lower half. I also believe I've seen a book by Mac King that involves magic tricks and stunts involving one's head. I'm sure that if you run a search on Andrew Mayne and Mac King you will see more along this line. Hope this helps. Nicholas |

That'd be Mac King's "Tricks With Your Head"
Andrew Mayne seems to specialize in tricks that are done with your body. See Body Morphin', Shock FX, Arm Buster, Pocket Finger Chopper, Face Lifter, Bi-Section. I perform Meir Yedid's Finger Fantasies all the time. I also like Garrett Thomas' additional ideas on the trick, in a routine he calls "Knuckle Buster" (I also learned how to apparently break my thumb from him.) |

I'd be willing to part with a first edition hardcover if you're interested. I'd only ask $235.00! But seriously, if you're very interested, let me know. Perhaps we can work out a deal.
Thanks, James |

Keep looking for Body Magic. I got my used copy through Amazon.com for $8.00 for the paperback copy this past fall. It's good, but not worth NEAR $200+
US. I believe almost all of the information can be found if you search through commonly available sources ... if you look hard enough. I didn't find much new in the book. These stunts have been around a long time and you can find many of them in stunt type books. Dave |

Body Magic is indeed a very good book. Copies have sold for well over $300. I have a signed copy and would never part with it.
Check out used book stores and the like. Also ebay. Kindest Regards, -George Tait |

You can also sometimes find a copy of Body Magic at your local public library--it was originally released to the general public....

The Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic from Magic, Inc is probably the best $35 you will even spend on a single magic book.
This massive tome (over 570 pages!) covers lots of things, including the "arm stretching" bit, swinging arm routines, limp arm buton pushing bits and a lot more. Much of it is old vaudeville stuff that's so old that it's new and much of it is suitable for comically weird intervals in your show. Highest recommendation! Hope this helps! Mac King's book describes some hilarious gags using your body. I would reccomend it, and you can find it at your local library.
