I would be good if they released an ungimmicked solid block that you could switch out for examination. because you could still show the gimmicked block very clearly all around... so the switch happens after everyone thinks the trick is over anyways. but that would be a good solution if these blocks don't stand the test of time or if you got one that was below average quality. though it sounds like most of the blocks are high enough quality that there's no need to switch anything out... but it still might be a nice option to have, and then you don't have to worry about them examining the thing for half an hour if they want to.

I am wondering if you could ask them about making some examinable playing cards. A lot of time when I do card magic, people grab the deck, then they start tearing the cards in half, ripping the card box and then grabbing my collar and shaking me. The problem is that I always beat them senseless and end up in jail. Maybe some solid steel cards, about 2mm thick. Although the deck would weigh like 6 pounds, that's ok because I would stay out of jail and my wife would stop divorcing me.
James ps Oh, and I need a precision micro hole, invisible to the naked eye. Exactly 4 microns by 3 microns. Just place it off center on the card exactly at the 32 micron by 76 micron mark. Ok, except for all the face cards, those need to be different. Quote: On 2014-01-23 12:07, barts185 wrote:

Well to be fair the problem with this type of penetration is the too perfect theory, if the only solution is that it MUST have gone through the middle of the block then they will examing the middle of the block. Theres no amount of spectator management that can overcome the problem that the heat will always be ON the point of penetration. Yes, if you don't present it as a puzzle to be worked out they will be less likely to search for the solution but the strength of the effect is that they can handle the block freely - and to do that they must be able to examine the penetration area without any suspicion being raised.

Short of a manufactured solid block being released, just get another Matchbox Mystery and glue it shut with JB Weld or other adhesive, and voila, an instant examinable switch-out block.
Yes, the above was a said in partial humor but hey, it would work!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Sub-standard quality unfortunately. I opted for a refund. What Jamie should do is make a pocket size IR. His is awesome.

I believe that using the routine mentioned earlier where the brass block "appears" in the box, a hole in the block would not be in the forfront. If the block was in the box at all times then it might have a hole and they will look for it. BUT, if the block appears in the box, the block is less suspicious. Their thinking then will be, where in the **** did that come from.
That, I believe, takes the heat off of the block. -Ron |

In that instance, what is the effect? An appearance, or a penetration? If it's an appearance, why would anyone poke something through the box in the first place? You have to decide what effect you're trying to present.

The best handling for this might be to remove the block and before they have a chance to look at it closely, immediately rip it into two pieces as a feat of strength.
And throw them into a lake or somewhere high where they can't be retrieved and examined. F |

Brilliant thinking Fate en Versos. I think this principle could be applied to a lot of other effects too.

I just received my second one from Penguin. I never had the "Spanish" version so I can't comment. Mine looks fine but I still would not belabor the examination process and would not perform this for one of my "see if you can fool me" spectators. I know that others have with success but I don’t think the gimmick is “bullet proof”

I have a brass block I bought years ago. One side looks great. The other has a slight tell tale visible line.
Maybe I missed the info in this thread but what can I use to polish, clean, steam, whatever to mask the problem area? |

Does anyone know if it rusts a lot?
Or even with a lot of use? Thanks Jp |

Brass does not rust that's why it's used on ships. But it can discolor in time.

Mine arrived today from Penguin and it will not open, it also does not line up when closed. I am very disappointed. Now I have to pay for a box or envelope to return it as well as postage and wait for it to get back to penguin, then back to me. I would imagine after all the discussion of defect, each one would be inspected and tested prior to shipping. I expect Penguin to credit or reimburse my return shipping.
