I wish Mickey will teach his technique even if it is at a high price . It will be a great contribution to the art and community .

Joaquin on one hand, I couldn't agree more. The art and community would benefit greatly! Talk to Steve Duschek, Charlie Justice, Paul Harris, John Cornelius to name a few, about the disadvantages of releasing your personal material. Peter Loughran can give you a first-hand example as can Chuck Leach, owner of Chazpro Products.
However, this does need to be archived, professially and in safe keeping in The Magic Castle somewhere under lock & key. Away from YouTube. That's where I'm afraid this will end up. Look, guys, it's not rocket science. If you're a coin guy/gal, you KNOW what he's doing! Watch the other stuff. Shift in weight, body movement, eye contact, expressions. The timing is one thing he has down. The ear to ear thing is PERFECT! You can do it! Take two coins and practice! This is an open forum, so I won't say more. You can do all this if you want to. Find an RV that works for you and use it! See the surprise on his face? It's over-the-top, yeah. It HAS to be! If you know anything about Theatre, that's one of the first things you learn. EXPRESSION! And movement! Mickey is a master at the off-beat as well. He can direct your attention through the VIDEO! I had to rewatch several demos he sent me. I was floored! Like a kid again! Want to learn Mickey's stuff? Collect all the videos off of YouTube and watch them over and over. Seriously. Slow it down. Frame by Frame. Study his body movements and shift in weight, and WHEN he does them! Look where HE looks, watch his eyes. He goofs on ya too. That's also key. The whole thing is almost orchestrated. Watch the pauses...adapt, but do NOT copy! Each person has their own persona. All Mickey did was nuclear-enrich his. And he's in Vegas now! You will see him on TV one day. Remember I said that. Sure you can learn his stuff if you really are dedicated! You don't need his instruction! It's not rocket science! ![]() Doug |

Thanks Doug for the advise. I do practice every day especially with coins which are my love affair. I had watched Mickeys videos over and over and have learned a lot from him and from other performers as well. There is just this special key move that he does in his ROV that I can't get very well yet. Is that move that it makes the ROV unique and outstanding.
Larry Barnowsky in his book 21st Century Coin Mechanics has a move call Universal Retention Vanish that apparently is the same. I heard Vinny once time posting that Mickeys was unique and there was nothing like it. It does looks the same at least the end result but until I do not see it I cannot rest in peace. Y You know how we are as a coin lovers. We really want to learn every step in detail to make our ROV perfect. Mickey has one piece of the puzzle that will complete our final piece of art. BUt unfortunately your are right about getting this secret out in the youtube. THe place where the magic is ruined. Thanks for your comments |

Joaquin,
Mickey is already on record stating that he doesn’t use his thumb for his SUV. Which would differentiate it from Dr. Larry's URV. Don’t ask me - I'm still flabbergasted! http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/searc......=7009125 Jim |

Iam the only person that Mickey tauight his suv to some 12 years ago...the only reason he taught the move is because others said it could not be taught , they were wrong..Larry's UVR is excellent but it is not the same as mickeys.

Steve is unhappy about folks making and selling his items without permission. Emphasize the word selling.
outside that product sales issue we're doing okay with ideas and our literature. If Mickey wants to publish or teach ... that's up to him.

May I get an "HONEST OPINION" from you Magicians here on the Café'. I truly appreciate any possitive or negative comments.
I created this routine several years ago: HOWEVER! I very seldom perform it as "I personally" never thought it to be strong enough to actually convince my audience that 'MAGIC APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING"........... I am trying to decide if I should start performing this routine again.......Also doing it using 3 Casino Chips . On the other hand I have been told by several lay people that it is the best thing they ever saw in person. What are your thoughts as a magician? Click and check >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p46OKIWxu_U THANK YOU, "MICKEY SILVER" |

Mickey, it's a fabulous effect. It is now, and was then when you performed it for me about 10 years ago in Cape Cod. Doing it with casino chips should work well but I wonder if the clay ceramic sound will be as magical sounding as the metal sound between the silver dollars and the razor blade.

The idea has been used with cards, but this is the only time I've ever seen it applied to coins. Very original. Faultless technique. The only thing I can mention as a possible improvement is to produce pieces that are not all the same, halves in this instance. In other words, large and small pieces so that it looks like the coins were really cut up into pieces. I don't know if that would be technically possible.

Great thinking guys, tahnk you....Yes larry I see your point and agree about the audio sound the clay chips will make....Very dull sounding indeed!!!!
.....Also Ray , yes the pieces can vary into different size ones and actually more pieces if put together properly!!!! Excellent improvement this might be and worth trying!!! The thing I do not like about this routine is that my right fingers plaming all the pieces at the beginning make my fingers look to stiff as though I could be holding something.......Making the right hands second, third and forth fingers look way to stationary at the beginning of the routine. |

Mickey I think this is great for magicians, because they have some idea of what goes into this.
For laypeople, IMO, it's very important to first somehow dispel what I think will be their first solution--that the coins are "trick" coins that come apart. Beautiful effect.

Thanks Landmark, this by all means is a very important point, excellent thinking!!!! . Performed close-up with people all around I try to make it a point - if people wish to examine the coins they can. One way is to dump the coins onto the table and then ask 3 different people to hold each coin flat in their hand ( This gives them the actually time to examine and feel coin as others watch them)... I then just take each coin off each hand instead of off the table. ........
It's really a tough call here, as everyone knows a razor blade can cut a playing card easily but is impossible to cut a solid Silver Coin - --- Nevertheless the mind set "IS" that a "RAZOR BLADE DOES CUT". MICKEY SILVER |

As a people and magician's coin guy, your audiences will tell you what you need to know.
Shades of an old Himber routine come to a small box in my brain. Only in prop, as the structures are far apart. I like sound and would go for the silver. Back in the 70's, when I worked out of Reno, casinos had metal dollar slot tokens. Do they still use them ? Been decades since I have been in a casino. Great concept for a coin routine that can really grab the attention of specs.
For clarity and a little drama, wouldn't it be cool to demonstrate the razor by slicing a piece of paper down the middle with the razor to set the stage BEFORE placing it in the hand. And then very delicately and carefully proceeding with a little fear in the eyes and face - some showmanship! Hold the right hand by ghe wrist with the left...go slowly and with EXTREME caution. This is a routine that begs for showmanship to elicit empathy from the audience - or all is lost. I love the way Mickey thinks about his magic. chuck
To see a difficult thing lightly handled gives the impression of the impossible.

I like the way the sounds builds, gradually sounding like there are more and more pieces in the hand.

Thanks....and yes Ray, that is supposed to be the idea, excellent observation on your part...... That part really fools people if I get the beginning by them.
>>> Hey Harris OMG it's been for ever..nice to see you on here still !!! Funny you remember those Reno ( heavy) dollar casino tokens!!! which of course we hardley ever see these days. Yeah the Silver certainly makes a better sound than a casino chip!!!....... And "YES" Like you stated Harris, the more I do it the more I'll understand what my audience thinks .....Hi chuck, and ty......I like your thinking about the drama.....I once filmed this entire routine with a blood capsule in my hand. I actually pokes a pin whole in the capsule and queezed it quickly before the real razor blade went in. ( I am going to try to find that video and put up here for everyone to see)....... The thing about me is its very difficult for me not to smile and look serious as in dramatics!!! Even if I try acting!!!.... So I kind of need sell myself with my gestures and feints and the way I move!!! C'mon Chuck you know me well, I love teasing people plain and simple!! ty Chuck ,hope to see you soon!!! I do however remember showing this Razor blade routine to my very first "MAGICIAN" .....It was Garrett Thomas some years ago in Las Vegas ... He told me that he watched me very closely and that I totally fooled him. Of course only after he fooled the hell out of me several times!!!!.... It would appear that the element of surprise plays a big part in this Razor Blade routine!! MICKEY SILVER |

Yes Vinny I did, and I still continue on with the diminishing coin routine to this day...... Lay people still "JUST CAN"T CATCH HOW IT"S DONE!!!! >> When there is a crowed around me it get a huge surprise response from them !!!! It really looks "EXTREMELY MAGICAL " in person as you may recall Vinny!!!!....... Thanks Pal for reminding about that!!!
