"The solution to government surveillance is to encrypt everything."
So said Eric Schmidt, Google's chairman, in response to revelations about the activities of the US National Security Agency (NSA) made by whistle-blower Edward Snowden. Schmidt's advice appears to have been heeded by companies that provide internet-based services. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25670315 Well I can't see that working. I think that is smoke sceen so to make you think it is safe.

If you think that is the answer then you missed the Snowden revelation that the NSA forced the developers of the most used encryption scheme to put in a backdoor, thus eviscerating the entire purpose of encryption and the integrity of all private communication.
"(Reuters) - As a key part of a campaign to embed encryption software that it could crack into widely used computer products, the U.S. National Security Agency arranged a secret $10 million contract with RSA, one of the most influential firms in the computer security industry, Reuters has learned. Documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden show that the NSA created and promulgated a flawed formula for generating random numbers to create a "back door" in encryption products, the New York Times reported in September. Reuters later reported that RSA became the most important distributor of that formula by rolling it into a software tool called Bsafe that is used to enhance security in personal computers and many other products. Undisclosed until now was that RSA received $10 million in a deal that set the NSA formula as the preferred, or default, method for number generation in the BSafe software, according to two sources familiar with the contract. Although that sum might seem paltry, it represented more than a third of the revenue that the relevant division at RSA had taken in during the entire previous year, securities filings show. The earlier disclosures of RSA's entanglement with the NSA already had shocked some in the close-knit world of computer security experts..." http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/2......20131220 One more reason the Snowden revelations are so important.

"If you think that is the answer." Well No! I don't think that is the answer. As I said:
Well I can't see that working. I think that is a smoke screen so to make you think it is safe. In other words, I think that is just a bit of propaganda. Most people will just read the headline and think, oh cool, its safe now they are encrypting everything. The powers that be will run that idea around in various ways and many people will think they can't spy on us now even if the try to. To the powers that be it does not matter what the truth is, what matters to them is the general public's perception of it.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

The answer imho is to do things that you're completely willing to take responsibility for if you're ever called on it.
Or if it is ever used against you.

You're missing one of the main points here; aside from the right to privacy in your personal affairs (Pakar have you been eating pork and drinking wine, you bad man etc.) there is the issue of privacy which has nothing to do with one's actions, but the matter of the security of banking, medical, and business data which are encrypted as a matter of routine. These are all compromised.
