I used to have the Michael Ammar coin DVD's from L&L, but in the process of moving and separating from my wife, they were lost.

I really liked the coins through silk routine, and would like to include it in an upcoming show, but I have long forgotten the moves!

I really want to re-learn the routine, and wonder if anybody here could help me by sharing the file?

Daffydoug:

I suggest ordering a new set, complete with a new "silk" and photographic instructions directly from Michael through his website...last time I checked, I think this way a Ten Dollar purchase and well worth the price, in my opinion.

Cool!

I already have the scarves. I well recall going into the ladies section of the store looking for these scarves and the funny looks I got.

Almost as bad as being sent to the store by your wife to buy feminine products.

I remember he has a VERY clean coin through silk/vanish accomplished via a helpful, unsuspected assistant.

As I remember, I was very disappointed to find out that Ammar did not publish the "real work" on his Coins Through Silk routine. He used several classic methods in the version he was doing at lectures. He may have felt his method was beyond the skills of many regular magicians.

Seen him do this at a magic convention close up session, it was very impressive.

As I suggested above, this packaged effect available for Ten Bucks contains detailed photographic instructions and a scarf, too..

Take a look here: http://www.ammarmagic.com/coins-thru-silk.html

I don't know about any "real work" but the way I learned was the way Ammar performed it. If he has some secret methods, the effect is the same either way. I know he's changed the handling over the years. All the changes/updates have been published I believe.

His original method has ever been published to my knowledge. I have all his early work as well.

I believe it was Evansville, Indiana, IBM Convention where he performed his original version. I was disappointed when he published his work, and left out his original handling as performed in Evansville, as he fooled many of the old pros that were attending. Can't remember the exact year, 1980 I think. He was in the Close-up the close-up magicians that moved from room to room in the hotel. He was just starting to make a name for himself in magic.

I think Encore III has a published version of Coins Through Silk.

Bill,

Was it always a three phase routine? Or did he have additional bits. Now you've got me intrigued.
The earliest version I had seen was from his magic castle lecture on VHS tape from the mid 80's.

John, I don't believe his original version was ever filmed or written up. I can't remember if it was at one of his lecturer or mentioned in one of his publications. It was mentioned that the published versions were easier for all to perform.

Okay, the routine is somewhat the same, but he did some miracle vanishes. Besides the Topit, he used Sleeving.

I know a lot of Ammar routines transformed over the years. Usually simplifying or refining the methods. I wouldn't be surprised if earlier work had unpublished moves. Thanks Bill.

Combining several methods impressed and fooled a lot of magicians. People like Brother John Hammon were sitting in the audience that day.

Mark Williams is correct. This routine is definitely written up in Encore 3 (published in 1983), as I own this book. The Phase 2 move (a click pass) is different from the Phase 2 move he is now teaching in his pictorial pamphlet that he puts out if you buy the silk from him. In this pamplet, he attributes this move to Dave Berry. This move was not written up as clearly as I would like in my opinion so I will probably resort to the original Phase 2 move in the book. Other than that, I do recommend you buy this silk from Mr. Ammar, as this pamphlet has some great photos to learn by

I remember Dave Berry and when he came up with that move. He showed it to Michael, who immediately liked it and asked if he could publish it in The Magical Arts Journal (his magazine back then, since reprinted in a book). Dave's move did make print and I changed over to it at the time. So it's an improvement.

Ammar is fantastic but Chris Powers handling of this is, for me, the one to study.

Here are examples of him performing it in both a traditional table hopping environment and in the studio, in front of a live audience, on Luis DeMatos' TV show.

I first learned this from the DVD "Easy to Master Money Miracles #3". I still have the scarves I bought for it. Definitely gotta get that DVD again...
