This is a difficult (to ask) question, that I'm confident will be easy to answer! When I was a kid, my Dad used a great deal of "angle iron" when welding various projects......utility trailers, boat trailers etc. etc. What is this metal material called that we see a lot of today, that is totally square?? Some sort of metal tubing.....but it's totally square (essentially 100 percent of a piece of angle iron????) I was putting together a table/desk last night we'd purchased at Target and the end pieces were comprised of that tubing stuff?
Anyone have a good supplier for it??

Unless I read your question wrong, I'm thinking you mean square steel tubing. Go look at the piece metal display at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc. and see if that's what you are after.

Paul, I don't know where you are but in LA or Tuscon try Industrial Metal Supply http://www.industrialmetalsupply.com/Pro......etalID=6 . I would think that most major cities have someplace similar.

McMaster & Carr (mcmaster.com) supplies so much in terms of material. What Paul is referencing is thin walled "mild steel" square tube. I am assuming this because it was Target was mentioned. Target, WalMart, etc. sells products made in China. To reduce costs and shipping they use the thinnest cheapest steel available. If you want to maintain the same look, feel and weight of this crap tubing you need to buy thin walled. The stuff your dad welded with was probably in the "schedule" range (sched 60, 80, etc.) and runs from 1/4" in thickness. Do weld that, pretty much any process works.... the thins stuff, forget it.
