Just wondering if I could get a little bit of insight or advice on this..
I don't have anything booked yet, but of course, I'm going to put together a few different "acts" for different scenarios and that's what I'm working on now, before I start advertising myself for a show. Right now I'm working on revision, scripting, line up, etc for a close-up scenario. I'll be using Cards, coins, and ropes most likely The cards is my biggest trouble. Here's my line up so far.. Ambitious Card (my own routine, no setup require, completely impromptu, like most) Triumph, again, completely impromptu. Ricky Jay's Card Manipulation (where you produce all of the spades, ace through king after vigorous shuffling and cuts in order) If you think it's wrong to perform this, please let me know. 8 Card Brain Wave by Nick Trost, I'll keep this in my top left coat pocket (packet trick) Red Hot Mama (Requires setup) Still going to be adding to that most likely.. If you have any ideas, let me know. Honestly, I think by writing this, I've answered my own question.. But I'm going to put it up anyways to see if there's any other insight among you guys. I was wondering how to deal with transitioning from a trick like red hot mama where you need 1 red card to ambitious card in which a red card must not be in the pack (using blue deck, just an example) So far I've got the idea of when transitioning from an impromptu trick to a setup trick, I'll just put a packet trick in, giving me a reason to switch out a deck for other cards and after the packet trick, I'll pull out a different deck of cards. Kind of worried that people may pick up on the fact that I am pulling a deck that is supposedly the same from a different pocket every time. So I'll most likely start off with Ricky Jay's Card manipulation as it requires a lot of preparation and once it's finished, the cards are set for any impromptu trick and nothing sets it apart. I'll then most likely move to Triumph, then Ambitious card, after that I'll put the deck away and take out a packet of cards from coat pocket, the 8 cards for 8 card brain wave.. I'll then move on to pull out a different deck of cards for Red hot Mama.. Figure that might be enough cards and at that point I should move on to coins or ropes.. perhaps coins should be before cards? I don't know yet! Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Possibly let me know what some of your guy's ideas are for trick line ups and preparation. Not sure if that's asking too much.. If it's unethical to post in public here, a PM would be nice. Thanks! -Harley |

RJ Card Manipulation should be used to close your set unless you have something more powerful. Red Hot Mama is usually reserved as an opener. If you're trying to put something together for strolling work then you have too many effects. Your set should be about 2 or 3 tricks and then you move on to a new group. Sometimes, depending on the spectators, one effect is more than enough.
